CABARRUS COUNTY DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE CHAPTER 16 -FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION SECTION G. STANDARDS FOR AREAS OF SHALLOW FLOODING (ZONE AO) Located within the Special Flood Hazard Areas established in Part 3, Section B, are areas designated as shallow flooding areas. These areas have special flood hazards associated with base flood depths of one (1) to three (3) feet where a clearly defined channel does not exist and where the path of flooding is unpredictable and indeterminate. In addition to Part 5, Sections A and B, all new construction and substantial improvements shall meet the following requirements: (1) The reference level shall be elevated at least as high as the depth number specified on the Flood In urance Rate Map (FIRM), in feet, plus a freeboard of 2 feet, above the highest adjacent grade; or at least 4 fe a depth is not provided above the highest adjacentgrade if no depth number is specified. (2) Non-residential structures may, in lieu of elevation, be floodproofed to the same level as fired in Part S coon I(1) so that the structure, together with attendant utility and sanitary facilities, be that I shall be night with walls substantially impermeable to the passage of water and with structur s ability of resisting hydrostatic and hydrodynamic loads and effects of buoyancy. SECTION C.
