CABARRUS COUNTY DEVELOPMENT ORDINANCE <br />CHAPTER 16 -FLOOD DAMAGE PREVENTION <br />SECTION G. STANDARDS FOR AREAS OF SHALLOW FLOODING (ZONE AO) <br />Located within the Special Flood Hazard Areas established in Part 3, Section B, are areas designated as shallow flooding areas. <br />These areas have special flood hazards associated with base flood depths of one (1) to three (3) feet where a clearly defined <br />channel does not exist and where the path of flooding is unpredictable and indeterminate. In addition to Part 5, Sections A <br />and B, all new construction and substantial improvements shall meet the following requirements: <br />(1) The reference level shall be elevated at least as high as the depth number specified on the Flood In urance Rate Map <br />(FIRM), in feet, plus a freeboard of 2 feet, above the highest adjacent grade; or at least 4 fe a depth is not <br />provided above the highest adjacentgrade if no depth number is specified. <br />(2) Non-residential structures may, in lieu of elevation, be floodproofed to the same level as fired in Part S coon <br />I(1) so that the structure, together with attendant utility and sanitary facilities, be that I shall be night <br />with walls substantially impermeable to the passage of water and with structur s ability of <br />resisting hydrostatic and hydrodynamic loads and effects of buoyancy. EFFECT ON RIGHTS AND LIABILITIES UNJrR THE EXISTINALhOOMMMAGE PREVENTION ORDINANCE <br />This ordinance in part comes forward by re -en actme me of the provisions of the Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance <br />enacted November 2, 1994 as amended, and it is a tion to repeal but rather to re-enact and continue to enforce <br />without interruption of such existing provision that all and liabilities that have accrued thereunder are reserved <br />and maybe enforced.
