March 19, 2018 (Regular Meeting) Page 3468 <br />Alex Beck, Active Living and Parks, Park Program Director, for Rob Wallace <br />Park recognized Eddie Miller for his Eagle Scout Service Project, which <br />consisted of constructing and installing eight wood duck boxes at Rob Wallace <br />Park. This project provides additional habitat, promoting species health and <br />numbers. Mr. Heck presented Mr. Miller with a certificate of appreciation in <br />recognition of his Eagle Scout project. In addition, as a momentum of <br />appreciation, he presented him with a hand -carved wooden duck. <br />Chairman Morris and Commissioner Kiger commended Mr. Beck for his service <br />(C-2) Human Resources - Recognition of Emergancy Medical Services (EMS) Director <br />David "Alan" Thompson's Retirement <br />Jonathan Marshall, Deputy County Manager, recognized Emergency Medical <br />Services (EMS) Director Alan Thompson who will retire after 28 years of service. <br />Jimmy Lentz, EMS, Assistant Director, commented on Mr. Thompson's <br />dedication and highlighted a number of Mr. Thompson's accomplishments during <br />his tenure with the County. He then presented Mr. Thompson with a plaque in <br />appreciation for his service. <br />Vice Chairman Honeycutt presented Mr. Thompson with a service award in <br />appreciation of his service to Cabarrus County and its citizens. <br />Mr. Thompson accepted the awards and expressed appreciation. <br />Chairman Morris expressed appreciation for Mr. Thompson's dedicated <br />service and wished him well. <br />(C-3) Proclamation - National Donate Life Month April 2018 <br />Kate McCullough, LifeShare of the Carolinas, Community Relations Manager, <br />spoke briefly regarding the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation. <br />Commissioner Shue read the proclamation aloud and announced he is a <br />recipient of organ donation. <br />UPON MOTION of Commissioner Shue, seconded by Vice Chairman Honeycutt and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the proclamation. <br />Proclamation No. 2818-02 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />NATIONAL DONATE LIFE MONTH 2018 <br />WHEREAS, more than 115,000 men, women and children in the United States <br />currently need life-saving organ transplants and nearly 3,000 of those <br />people are North Carolinians; and <br />WHEREAS, an average of 20 people awaiting transplants die each day because <br />there is a severe shortage of donated organs; and <br />WHEREAS, every eight minutes, another name is added to the national transplant <br />waiting list; and <br />WHEREAS, providing facts about donation and dispelling misinformation and myths <br />are key to increasing the number of people who sign up as donors; and <br />WHEREAS, the North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles (NC DMV) plays a <br />critical role with over five million North Carolinians in the state's <br />donor registry having registered when receiving a driver's license or <br />state ID card; and <br />WHEREAS, one organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and improve <br />many more lives through tissue and cornea donation; and <br />WHEREAS, North Carolinians are encouraged to get the facts about donation, <br />discuss their wishes with their family and sign up as donors via the <br />NC DMV or online at www.donatelifenc.org/register; and <br />WHEREAS, Residents of Cabarrus County have been touched by donation as <br />recipients of life-saving transplants and as members of donor families <br />who have literally given others a second chance at life; and <br />NOW, BE IT RESOLVED, we, the members of the Cabarrus Board of County <br />Commissioners do hereby proclaim the month of April, 2018 to be <br />
