April 16, 2018 (Regular Meeting) Page 3508 <br />Stephen M. Morris, Chairman <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />(C-4) Active Living and Parka - Older Americans Month 2018 Proclamation <br />Byron Haigler, Active Living and Parks, Superintendent, announced the <br />2018 theme is "Engage at Every Age!" He stated Older Americans Month celebrates <br />the many ways older adults can make a difference in our community. He stated in <br />2017 the Cabarrus County Active Living Department won lot place from the Area <br />Agency on Aging's Older Americans month contest. He then read the proclamation <br />aloud. <br />Vice Chairman Honeycutt MOVED to adopt the proclamation. Commissioner <br />Kiger seconded the motion. <br />Vice Chairman Honeycutt, liaison to the Cabarrus County Senior Centers <br />Advisory Council, commented on the active and engaging individuals that <br />participate in activities at the Senior Center and encouraged everyone of age <br />to try it out. <br />The MOTION unanimously carried. <br />P ... I ation No. 2018-06 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />OLDER AMERICANS MONTH MAY 2018 <br />"Engage at Every Age!" <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council recognizes that older <br />adults are engaging at every age - advocating for themselves, their <br />peers, and their communities - paving the way for future generations; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council is committed to raising <br />awareness about issues facing older Americans and helping all <br />individuals to thrive in communities of their choice for as long as <br />possible; and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council will continue to <br />provide hours of volunteer, community and civic service; and <br />WHEREAS, we appreciate the value of inclusion and support in helping older <br />adults successfully contribute to and benefit from their communities; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers can provide opportunities to enrich the <br />lives of individuals of all ages by; <br />• Promoting and engaging activity, wellness and social involvement <br />• Emphasizing home and community-based services that support <br />independent living <br />• Ensuring community members can benefit from the contributions and <br />experience of older adults. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />do hereby proclaim May 2018 as Older Americans Month. <br />Adopted this 16th day of April, 2018. <br />/s/ Stephen M. Morris, Chairman <br />Board of Commissioners <br />Attest: <br />/s/ Terri Lea Hugie <br />Terri Lea Hugie, Clerk to the Board <br />(C-5) Planning and Development - Soil and Water Stewardship Week Proclamation <br />Tammi-Sue Remsburg, Soil and Water Conservation District, Resource <br />Conservation Coordinator, stated the Conservation District encourages informed <br />and responsible stewardship of all of Cabarrus County's natural resources. She <br />stated Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District's mission fits perfectly <br />with the Commissioners' goal, to preserve and enhance the quality of life of <br />the County's inhabitants. She then read the proclamation. <br />
