Morris, Chairman Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners (C-4) Active Living and Parka - Older Americans Month 2018 Proclamation Byron Haigler, Active Living and Parks, Superintendent, announced the 2018 theme is "Engage at Every Age!" He stated Older Americans Month celebrates the many ways older adults can make a difference in our community. He stated in 2017 the Cabarrus County Active Living Department won lot place from the Area Agency on Aging's Older Americans month contest. He then read the proclamation aloud. Vice Chairman Honeycutt MOVED to adopt the proclamation. Commissioner Kiger seconded the motion. Vice Chairman Honeycutt, liaison to the Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council, commented on the active and engaging individuals that participate in activities at the Senior Center and encouraged everyone of age to try it out. WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council recognizes that older adults are engaging at every age - advocating for themselves, their peers, and their communities - paving the way for future generations; and WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council is committed to raising awareness about issues facing older Americans and helping all individuals to thrive in communities of their choice for as long as possible; and WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers Advisory Council will continue to provide hours of volunteer, community and civic service; and WHEREAS, we appreciate the value of inclusion and support in helping older adults successfully contribute to and benefit from their communities; and WHEREAS, Cabarrus County Senior Centers can provide opportunities to enrich the lives of individuals of all ages by; • Promoting and engaging activity, wellness and social involvement • Emphasizing home and community-based services that support independent living • Ensuring community members can benefit from the contributions and experience of older adults. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners do hereby proclaim May 2018 as Older Americans Month. Adopted this 16th day of April, 2018. /s/ Stephen M. She stated Cabarrus Soil and Water Conservation District's mission fits perfectly with the Commissioners' goal, to preserve and enhance the quality of life of the County's inhabitants. She then read the proclamation.
