September 17, 2018 (Regular Meeting) Page 3688
Poole requested staff to look into other options. After reaching out to Historic
Cabarrus, the County Manager has suggested rather than asking the Board to
declare the items as surplus, for the County to maintain ownership to retain
control, and loan the items out to Historic Cabarrus. This option would enable
the County to display the items at alternate locations when Historic Cabarrus
is unable to keep them on display. The items consist of a fake gold rock, a set
of gold scales dating to the 1799 Cabarrus County Gold Rush and some iron hinges
from Stephen Cabarrus' barn in Edenton, North Carolina.
A discussion ensued. During discussion, Mr. Marshall responded to
questions from the Board. Consensus from the Board was for the County to maintain
ownership of the items and loan them to Historic Cabarrus and the Eastern
Cabarrus Historical Society and Museum.
(F) CONSENT
Chairman Morris spoke regarding the processes and discussion of agenda
items at the work sessions and regular meetings. He also discussed how citizens
could participate, should they wish to do so.
(F-1) Cabarrus County Schools - Contingency Fund Request for Hickory Ridge
Elementary School Project - $600,000
The Cabarrus County Board of Education is requesting the release of
$600,000 of budgeted contingency funds for the removal of additional mass rock
above the 8,500 cubic yard allowance as a part of the original contract
amount. The rock that was anticipated to be removable by machine based on
preliminary geotechnical data gathered is not and will have to be blasted.
