The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was bePd <br /> <br />at 9:90 A.M. on October 2, 1967, with the following members present: <br /> Chairman - C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners -Ranktn, Beasley, Petrea, and Hawfteld. <br /> <br />Vice-Chairman Petrea called the meeting to order. Prayer was by the Revenend <br /> <br />C. Eugene Carroll. Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> Representatives of Weaver Morgan Corporation, High Point,N.C., appeared <br />before the Board and requested a reduction in the valuation of bil.1 and hold <br />goods owned by them on December ?1, 1966, and stored in Cannon Mills Warehouses. <br />Commissioners instructed them to ascertain market value of their goods and report <br />back to the Commissioners on November 6, 1967, at 10:00 A.M. <br /> <br /> Tax Supervisor Ralph Litaker appeared~ before the Board requesting permission <br />to send follow-up letters to each manufacturer in the County requesting certifi- <br />cation of billed and held goods in their warehouses January 1, 1967. Ranktn made <br />motion, seconded by Petrea, to approve this request. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> Mr. Litaker also requested permission to give employees of his department the <br />opportunity to take tests to qualify as key punch operators. Permission was <br />gran~[ed. <br /> <br /> Hoy' Moose, chairman of the Blue Ribbon Planning Committe, presented the final <br />recommendations of the Committe for location of a new Courthouse and jail. A <br /> <br />copy of this report is recorded on page ?~C~{ and becomes a part of these <br /> <br />minutes. Commissioners recommended that letters be sent to members of the <br /> <br />Committee commending them for their services. <br /> <br /> Superintendent Jay Robinson, Assistant-Superintendent Joe Fries of the <br />Cabarrus County school system and Mr. Stewart Black, chairman of the Cabarrus <br />Board of Education, discussed with the Commissioners the possibility of acquiring <br />additional property ad.~acent to Mt. Pleasant High School, to be used for <br />consolidation of all elementary schools in Mt. Pleasant area. Chairmen James and <br />Black were appointed to investigate the purchase of this property. <br /> <br /> Superintendent Robinson presented a petition for reduction of the speed limit <br /> on Cox Mill Road, bearing traffic from Northwest High School. Petition was <br /> unanimously approved. <br /> <br /> The following road petitions were approved upon motion by Petrea, second by <br /> <br />Hawfield: T-2 Road #1797, - Sumner Ave. - Request for surface treatment <br /> T-k, Road #1[$J$~ - Request for speed ordinances <br /> <br /> <br />
