The regular monthly meeting of the Cabarrus County Commissioners was held at <br /> <br />9:30 A.M. on January l~ 1969, with the following members pres~e, nt: <br /> Chairman: C. Frank James <br /> <br /> Commissioners: F. J. Beasley, Jr., Dr. R. B. Rankln, Jr. <br /> <br /> S. Glenn Hawfteld, Jr. and C. McNeil Petrea. <br /> <br />Chairman James called the. meeting to order. Prayer was by the Reverend Ralph <br /> <br />Bright. Minutes were read and approved. <br /> <br /> The. scheilule.for.cle, molition~.of buildings to.make way for the proposed new <br />Jail was discu.ss~d..and approved. A request by R. Vernon Lltaker, presently a <br />tenant of :the_County in one of the Reed ~Buildings, for first refusal ont~he <br />rental of space now occupled~:~by 5ally's Beauty Salon was also approved. <br /> <br /> County Attorney James C. Davis, reporting on the request fo check out the <br /> <br />statutes re~3ar.ding Jail fees., recommended tha..t-the, fees be. set .-at $3.00 p~r day <br /> <br />however, that this fee would be redu~ed to $2..00 .per day tn DaceS,r, 1970, when <br />the County 9oas under the Court Reform System· Upon motion by Ranktn, seconded <br />by Petr~,.v. cte carried to set the ,Jail fee at .$.~.00 .per day beginning January <br />10, 1969. <br /> <br /> A letter from Security Ba~ ~ Trust Company requesti.n9 to be ~med an <br /> <br />official depository for Cabarrus County funds was presented for consideration. <br /> <br /> Petrea made motion, seconded by Ranktn, %o dec~re Sec.urity Bank and Trust Co. <br /> <br />an official depository for County funds· Vote was unanimous. <br /> <br /> School 5uperintende.nts Jay M. Robinson, W. W. Harts, il, and W. J. Bullock, <br />and Board of Education Chairman Stewart Black, Richard Gillon, and Samuel Stroupe, <br />representing the three school units of the County, reported on discussion between <br />the' units and George Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., regarding a proposed <br />in-depth consolidation study of the County School Systems. Rankin made motion, <br />seconded by Hawfteld, to authorize the school units to negotiate a contract <br />with the George Peabody College. Vote carried. <br /> <br /> State Senator John R Boiler, Jr , Representatives James C. Johnson, Jr. and <br /> <br /> Dwight Qulnn, appeared at the request of the Board and a discussion was held <br /> concerning CountY legislative needs and additional sources of revenue. The <br /> group recommended to the Board that specific needs be requested and that <br /> appropriate action would be taken when feasible. <br /> <br /> Clerk of Superior Court Estus B. White presented the annual audit of the <br /> <br /> <br />
