<br />May 23, 2005 - Regular Meeting <br /> <br />Page <br /> <br />163 <br /> <br />The Board of Commissioners for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session in the Commissioners' Meeting Room at the Cabarrus County <br />Governmental Center in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, May 23, 2005, at <br />6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present - Chairman: Carolyn B. Carpenter <br />Vice Chairman: Robert W. Carruth <br />Commissioners: Robert M. Freeman <br />Joni D. Juba <br />Coy C. Privette <br /> <br />Also present were John D. Day I County Manager; <br />Jr., County Attorney; Frankie F. Bonds, Clerk to <br />Honeycutt, Deputy Clerk to the Board. <br /> <br />Fletcher L. <br />the Board; <br /> <br />Hartsell, <br />and Kay <br /> <br />Chairman Carpenter called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Junior Girl Scout/Brownie Troop 517 of All <br />conducted the Flag Ceremony. Scouts participating <br />Hannah Love, Anna-Catherine Carroll, Sabrina Parker I <br />Victoria Jacobs, and Mary Elizabeth Jacobs. <br /> <br />Saints Episcopal Church <br />in the ceremony were: <br />Lauren Oglesbee, Anna <br /> <br />Chaplain Ric Durham of Hospice of Cabarrus County gave the invocation. <br /> <br />(Al APPROVAL OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Freeman <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the minutes of March 21, 2005 <br />(Regular Meeting) and April 4, 2005 (Work Session) as written. <br /> <br />(Bl APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA <br /> <br />UPON MOTION of Vice Chairman Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Freeman <br />and unanimously carried, the Board approved the Agenda as submitted. <br /> <br />(Cl RECOGNITIONS AND PRESENTATIONS <br /> <br />(C-l) <br /> <br />Recognition of Vulcan Materials Company for Recent Awards <br />, <br /> <br />Vulcan <br />awards <br /> <br />vice Chairman Carruth presented the following Proclamation honoring <br />Materials Company's environmental stewardship efforts and recent <br />from the National and North Carolina wildlife Federation. <br /> <br />PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Vulcan Materials Company is the nation's leading producer of <br />construction aggregates, primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Vulcan Materials and its employees have long been recognized <br />for their commitment to environmental stewardship and continuing efforts to <br />establish and maintain wildlife habitats on quarry property; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />certified as a <br />converting areas <br />wildlife; and <br /> <br />Vulcan's Cabarrus Quarry was the first in the State to be <br />wildlife Federation Wildlife and Industry Together site, <br />of its property into a habitat for native plants and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, on February 19, 2005, Vulcan Materials Company was named the <br />2004 North Carolina Business Conservationist of the Year, an award conferred <br />jointly by the North Carolina wildlife Federation and the National wildlife <br />Federation, under a long-standing agreement with the governor's office; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Vulcan's CabarruB Quarry recently received the International <br />Habitat Conservation Award in recognition of employees' efforts to enhance <br />and preserve wildlife habitat, including such activities as monitoring <br />bluebird and wood duck nest boxes and planting and maintaining food plots for <br />white tail deer, Canada geese and other wildlife. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners hereby <br />congratulates Vulcan Materials Com~any on its recent awards and recognitions <br />and commends the company and its employees for their ongoing wildlife habitat <br />conservation efforts and continuing commitment to environmental stewardship. <br />
