Freeman <br /> Commissioners: Carolyn B. Carpenter <br /> Robert W. Carruth <br />Absent - Vice Chairman: Richard D. Suggs <br /> Commissioner: Coy C. Privette <br /> <br /> Also present were John D. Day, County Manager; Marilyn D. Porter, <br />County Attorney; Fletcher L. Hartsell, Jr.; Attorney; and Frankie F. Bonds, <br />Clerk to the Board. <br /> <br />Chairman Freeman called the meeting to order at 9:35 a.m. <br /> <br />Transfer of Lake Concord Property <br /> <br /> Mr. Hartsell reported the Board of Commissioners had authorized the <br />transfer of the County's interest in Lake Concord to the Water and Sewer <br />Authority of Cabarrus County in 1999. He stated there had been a nu~%ber of <br />delays in finalizing this action; however, the Deed transferring the property <br />has now been prepared. He asked the Board to ratify the transfer of this <br />property. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter <br />and unanimously carried, the Board ratified the transfer 6f the County's Lake <br />Concord property to the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County and <br />authorized the Chairman to execute the Deed on behalf of Cabarrus County. <br /> <br /> Mr. <br />ownership <br />complete. <br /> <br />Hartsell reported that preparation of an instrument transferring <br />of the Irish Buffalo Creek interceptor sewer line is almost <br />He is completing this work for the Water and Sewer Authority. <br /> <br />Proclamation - Hendrick Motor Sports <br /> <br /> Mr. Day asked the Board to consider the adoption of a Proclamation in <br />recognition of the 20tn anniversary of Hendrick Motorsports. <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carruth, seconded by Commissioner Carpenter <br />and unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Proclamation. <br /> <br /> Resolution No. 2004-18 <br /> PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Cabarrus County, the Center of American Motorsports, is the home of <br />Hendrick Motorsports. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Rick Hendrick began a small racing business 20 years ago that has <br />grown into a stock car racing empire with four entries in NASC;LR's Nextel Cup <br />Series and one entry in the Busch Series. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hendrick Motorsports is home to Jeff Gordon the winningest active <br />driver on the series and the third winningest driver in the NASCAR modern <br /> <br />era. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hendrick Motorsports' teams have secured five NASCAR Winston Cup <br />(now Nextel) Championships, three NASCAR Craftsman ~ruck Series titles and <br />one NASC~/t Busch Series crown totaling more than 100 victories in its 20 <br />years of racing. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hendrick Motorsports' sponsor-partners represent some of the world's <br />most well-known brands. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Ail Hendrick race cars are completely constructed at the 62-acre <br />Cabarrus County complex, and more than 700 engines are built or re- <br />built on site each year. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hendrick Motorsports employs more than 400 employees and day- <br />to-day activities include management of HendrickMotorsports.com, the <br />15,000-square-foot museum and team store, marketing, public <br />relations, sponsor services, licensing, show cars, and merchandising. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Hendrick Motorsports plans to expand its facilities in <br />Cabarrus County to include a production facility for Nextel Cup cars <br /> <br /> <br />
