Cabarrus County Public Library
c. Include how library staff will be trained or prepared to support the project.
The library's five -year plan, adopted in September of 2015 by the Library Board of Trustees,
includes several goals related to providing improved services to a more diverse population, with several
specific goals to reach the Hispanic community. All staff are aware of these goals and were given the
opportunity to express interest in particular projects, many identifying improving Spanish services as a
personal interest. With a dedicated, invested team already in place, training offered by both the
Bilingual Library Assistant and outside presenters would empower staff to bridge any language gap
through excellent service. Training topics would include tips on implementing bilingual programs
focused on early literacy, basic Spanish language phrases for a library setting, and cultural sensitivity
training with a focus on the Hispanic and Latino communities.
d. Describe how the target audience will be made aware of the project.
Outreach and marketing, both with the assistance of the Bilingual Library Assistant, will be the
primary methods of making the target audience aware of this project.
e. What will happen to the project after the funding period has ended? How will the library
sustain the new program /service for library users? How will the library replace /update
equipment funded for this project when it ages out?
After initial services are established and evaluation of the project has been completed, CCPL
intends to use the collected data to show the importance of diversifying services on behalf of the county
population, and adjust budget requests to reflect the positive effects of this project. Materials will be
replaced on an as- needed basis with library funding, and technology will be listed on an inventory list
kept by Cabarrus County Internet and Technology Services for inclusion in its hardware refresh cycle.
Future funding for literacy -based projects and services has also been pledged by the Cabarrus
Literacy Council, after a period of financial sustainability has been achieved.
4. PROJECT PARTNERS, if applicable (others respond with N /A)
The Cabarrus Literacy Council is partnering with CCPL in this project, offering to sponsor a 10%
matching sum, along with assisting with project goals. The Council has pledged to be an active
community voice advocating for ESOL and LEP services through presentations and events. This includes
EZ Literacy & Lifelong Learning nt number 1 \n
G -4 Page 226
