I believe that our legislators had very good intentions when the passed a class size <br /> bill last year. However, I do not believe they understood the negative implications. By placing a class <br /> size restriction without flexibility, the law immediately creates classroom space issues and teacher <br /> allocation issues. If the current legislation moves forward, our school district will need 104 extra <br /> classrooms. We will need to purchase 88 mobile units at a cost of about$99,000 per unit (including <br /> purchase, set up, utilities extensions, furniture, and technology). We will need 104 extra teachers and <br /> approximately$312,000 of local funds to pay for the local supplement for those teachers.
