b. Provision: The Family Support Specialist directs this service, and the client <br /> reports to Family Support Specialist on a regular basis, usually weekly. This <br /> emphasizes the importance of this activity, and reinforces the fact that <br /> someone is closely monitoring the recipient to ensure that they are indeed <br /> searching for work. <br /> c. Contribution to meeting of goals: Job Search has an impact on several goals. <br /> These include: <br /> • Adults entering employment <br /> • Meeting both Federal Participation Rates <br /> • Providing employment services <br /> • Prevention of welfare dependency <br /> 4. Job Readiness <br /> a. Description: Frequently, many Work First recipients have little or no job <br /> history and need direction and training in more than job skills. They need <br /> assistance in determining their interests and what types of jobs might best suit <br /> them, as well as, developing skills that can help them obtain and maintain a <br /> job. These include resume and application skills, interviewing skills, <br /> communicating, problem solving, crisis management, assertiveness, parent <br /> training, time management, and positive work and personal habits. <br /> b. Provision: Family Support Specialists at DHS will be primary providers of <br /> positive traits to Work First recipients. Through state funds that are available, <br /> InterestNocational Assessments which assesses the individual's abilities, <br /> skills, interests and readiness for employment. This is done by several <br /> procedures, including psychological and academic testing, observations, <br /> interviewing, dexterity and motor skills tests. In many settings vocational <br /> assessment is carried out by a team that may include (depending on the setting <br /> and person's disability) specialists from fields such as occupational therapy, <br /> rehabilitation medicine or psychiatry, psychology, social work, vocational <br /> guidance, education and rehabilitation. The local community college offers <br /> the Interest Assessment and the NC Works Career Center sometimes provides <br /> these services as well, and they can be utilized. Contract facilities can also be <br /> used for these resources. <br /> c. Contributing to meeting of goals: Job Readiness activities can contribute to <br /> the meeting of the following goals: <br /> • Employment <br /> • Job Retention <br /> 5. Job Skills Training Directly Related to Employment <br /> a. Description: This activity is emphasized for those recipients who are <br /> participating in countable work-related activities at least 20 hours a week, and <br /> through assessment it is determined that they are not going to meet the earning <br /> potential needed to get off public assistance, due a lack of job skills.
