Experience positions have been used to motivate and encourage recipients to <br /> find paid employment. <br /> c. Contribution to meeting of goals: Work Experience can contribute to the <br /> meeting of the following goals: <br /> • Employment <br /> • Meeting Federal Participation Rates <br /> • Providing employment services <br /> 8. GED/HS Completion for Teen Heads of Household <br /> a. Description: It is the objective to make every effort to ensure that teenage <br /> heads of household remain in school and graduate or receive a high school <br /> equivalency. They must satisfactorily attend school, and this will be <br /> determined by the public school or community colleges definition of <br /> "satisfactory". In some cases, teens have dropped out of school prior to <br /> graduation to supplement the family income. This is a short-term and <br /> inadequate solution to a problem, and must be avoided whenever possible. <br /> b. Provision: The Work First employment program will identify and target teen <br /> heads of household as quickly as possible once they are recipients of Work <br /> First to ensure that they do indeed remain in school and satisfactorily attend <br /> according to Work First policy guidelines. Those already out of school and <br /> pursing a GED will be required to pursue other work-related activities in <br /> addition to the GED, per Work First guidelines. This will be monitored <br /> monthly, with attendance sheets and performance reports signed by the school <br /> official. The Family Support Specialist will work with families to better <br /> ensure that households are not in a position where teens in school feel <br /> compelled to drop out to assist in the support of the household. <br /> c. Contribution to meeting of goals: School completion for teen heads of <br /> households can contribute to meeting the following goals: <br /> • Meeting Federal participation rates <br /> • Employment <br /> • Prevention of welfare dependency <br /> • Staying off welfare <br /> 9. Vocational Educational Training <br /> a. Description: Vocational Educational Training is designed to provide a <br /> particular curriculum of skills to a recipient in an intensive, relatively short- <br /> term program to gain them employment in a particular occupational area. For <br /> recipients that display the ability and commitment to follow through, it will <br /> most likely get them higher wages than they otherwise would realize without <br /> the training. It is limited to 12 months. <br /> b. Provision: Vocational Education courses of study are offered by the local <br /> community college, and would be provided after recommendation by the <br /> Family Support Specialist. Compliance with attendance and satisfactory <br /> performance would be monitored no less than monthly, or at an interval <br /> determined by the social worker, by an attendance/performance sheet signed <br /> by the school official. <br /> Page 7119 <br /> Attachment number 1 \n <br /> F-7 Page 80 <br />
