Federal TANF funds are not used to pay for medical services. Eligibility and <br /> Employment Services are completed by the Family Support Specialist in Cabarrus <br /> County. <br /> 7. Hardship Extensions-Cash assistance: Upon notice to a Work First recipient by <br /> the Family Support Specialist of the approaching expiration period for cash <br /> benefits, whether it is the 24 month or 60 month lifetime clock, the recipient may <br /> submit a written request for a hardship extension to the Family Support Specialist. <br /> This hearing request is submitted to the Cabarrus County Hearing officer who will <br /> hold a hearing to consider the recipient's written request and the Family Support <br /> Specialist's documentation of case history and make a decision to extend the cash <br /> assistance for a period not to exceed 6 months. Hardship extensions are reported <br /> monthly to the State. <br /> C. Child Care <br /> Cabarrus County DHS provides subsidized child care to the Work First Recipients. <br /> In the event that the implementation of a waiting list for these services should become <br /> necessary, these recipients would be exempt from the waiting list. <br /> D. Transportation <br /> Transportation is the primary supportive service needed to enable Work First <br /> recipients to maintain employment. Cabarrus County DHS will make every effort to <br /> ensure that Work First recipients are able to access the necessary transportation to <br /> allow them to obtain and stabilize themselves on a job. "Stabilize" in this context <br /> refers to networking with other employees at their place of work, family, friends, etc. <br /> to work out permanent ongoing transportation after the DHS supportive transportation <br /> ends. At present funding levels, Cabarrus County DHS will be able to assist <br /> recipients with transportation from the time they are employed up to 30 days beyond <br /> their date of employment, with the exception of Job Bonus recipients who may <br /> receive 90 days of transportation. <br /> Cabarrus County has a Transportation Department, which operates the human <br /> services transportation system, which is known as Cabarrus County Transport <br /> Service (CCTS). Family Support Specialist at DSS determine eligibility for <br /> Transportation Services, enter eligibility information into a database, which is <br /> accessed by County employed schedulers in the Planning Department. The potential <br /> rider calls the scheduler, who in turn contacts CCTS or another resource for <br /> transportation. In addition, Cabarrus County has access to a public bus system, C-K <br /> Rider.
