Cabarrus County would continue to maintain and insure the site. Additional services (ie additional
temporary trash canisters and clean-up) to support activities such as small concerts, art shows, etc.
approved by the Cabarrus County Parks Department to be held on this site would be administered and
paid for in the same way the Cabarrus County Parks Department handles these additional services
throughout its present public park facilities.
Long -Term Expectations of Maintenance
The Concord Rotary Club expects that Cabarrus County would maintain Rotary Square in a similar
fashion to its maintenance of its other public parks operated by the Cabarrus County Parks Department..
Local Support
This site was studied by Cabarrus County in 2005 as part of a design charette, and again in 2008 by the
City of Concord as part of a community input session for the Downtown Concord master plan. Both
studies indicated public support for either a multi -story building or an open public space on this corner
lot. The following organizations have been contacted regarding this proposed project and have indicated
support: Piedmont Farmers Market, Concord Downtown Development Corporation, Residents of
Historic Concord, and the Concord Garden Club. Two meetings have been held with St. James Lutheran
Church to discuss this project. They have expressed a desire for continued communication as the
planning for this site moves forward, further communication regarding the scheduling of the farmers
market in conjunction with regular activities conducted at the church, and the need to monitor parking
associated with activities at this site to insure the church's parking lot is not utilized for public parking.
Letters and emails of support will be coming from a variety of business owners from Historic Downtown
Concord.
Attached Documentation: Letter from Piedmont Farmers Market, Letter from Residents of Historic
Concord, Inc.
Attachment number 1
G -5 Page 262
