Cabarrus County Zoning Ordinance <br />Chapter 2 -Rules of Construction and Definitions <br />SECTION 2 -1 GENERAL RULES OF CONSTRUCTION <br />The following rules of construction shall govern the application and interpretation of this <br />Ordinance: <br />1. When the text of this Ordinance conflicts with any caption, figure, <br />illustration, table or map, the text shall control. <br />2. In the event of any conflict in limitations, requirements, or standards <br />applying to an individual use or structure, the more restrictive provision shall �11** <br />apply. 1 <br />3. The words shall, must, and will are mandatory in nature, implying an 1® <br />obligation or duty to comply with the particular provision. <br />4. The word "may" is permissive in nature. <br />5. Words used in the present tense include the future tense. <br />6. Words used in the singular number include the plural number and the plural <br />number includes the singular number, unless the context of the particular <br />usage clearly indicates otherwise. <br />7. Words used in the masculine gender i I e t feminine gender. <br />SECTION 2 -2 BASIC TERMS AND DEFINITIONS <br />ABANDONED VEHICLE -Any motor vehicle that is left or abandoned <br />1. On public grounds or county -owned property in violation of a law or ordinance <br />prohibiting parking; 1p <br />2. For longer than 24 hours on property owned or operated by the county; <br />3. For longer than two hours on private property without the consent or the owner, <br />occupant, or lessee of the property; and /or, <br />4. Left for longer than seven days on public grounds <br />ABUT - Having property, district lines, rights -of -way or easements in common; lots abut if they <br />have property lines in common. <br />ACCESS- A way oapproaching or entering a property from a street. <br />ACCES NY BUILDING- A building located on the same lot and customarily incidental and <br />subordinate 'to the principal building. <br />ACCESSORY DWELLING UNIT- A structure, used as a residence, located on the same lot and <br />customarily incidental and subordinate to the principal building. <br />ACCESSORY USE- A subordinate use of a building or use of land which is: <br />1. Conducted on the same Lot as the principal Use to which it is related, and <br />2.
