Community Impact
The following is a list of perceived benefits that a vibrant relationship between Woodson University,
Cabarrus County, and the Midland community would bring.
1) Academic benefits — the university could provide specialized reduced cost training in an array of
technical and liberal arts certificates through the university's partnerships with vocational training
companies and the university's continuing education department. In addition a positive private /public
relationship could be implemented to successfully construct, staff, and stock a community library.
2) Economic benefits — the university can add economic value to the Cabarrus County /Town of
Midland through the opening of bid processes with special consideration given to local businesses in
support of the sustainable local economy efforts of the county. There would be an additional number of
individuals who would visit the town inclusive of prospective students, students, faculty, staff, and
private partners would increase the amount of dollars spent in Caban us County/Midland businesses.
The university would also request that its construction manager at request provide special consideration
to local Midland businesses.
3) Social benefits — the university will provide cultural arts, special lectures, and workshops for the
community. This along with special event nights and etc. would work to foster a positive working and
neighborly relationship with Cabarrus County /Midland citizens. In addition a positive private /public
relationship could be implemented to successfully construct, staff, and stock a community library.
Proposed Campus Usage
Woodson University would like to purchase the Old Bethel School property and develop it into
our college campus and, civic center, business center, and preparatory academy day school. The ten
acres of land perfect situated on Highway 24/27 positions the university in the middle of three counties
and provides land on which the university and community could grow. In this document you will find
the initial plans the university plans to implement post purchase.
The university has particular interest in using the current athletic field that is situated directly on
Highway 24/27 to house temporary academic and administrative facilities. It is estimated that this
could be implemented within the first ten to twelve months of campus occupation.
Building A (Two Story Building) — This building consists of 30, 672 square feet. This building would
be renovated and rehabilitated to its previous usage as an administrative building, media center, and
auditorium. This building would house the Office of the President, Office of the Provost, Admissions,
Registrar, Learning Resource Center, Office of Business and Finance, Classrooms, and Faculty office
space. Space would be made available to civic organizations, the Town of Midland and Cabarrus
County for housing of administrative programs. This building would be targeted first structure to
become operational.
Building B (Gymnasium) — This building consists of 9,400 square feet. The gymnasium would be
renovated to serve an athletic facility, per its original usage. This facility would be used to hold
university and community athletic events.
