County Extension Directors
July 30, 2012
Page 2
It is my hope that each County /Tribe will agree to match. I think the positive talking points
to use, if you need them, are:
a. The only direct financial obligation is payouts for retirees; and it is highly likely that
these will only be a handful with payouts because the policy requires everyone to
use this Special Leave first.
b. While there is an indirect financial cost to the County /Tribe when an employee uses
a day off from work, there is no additional financial cost to them.
I know that our Partners may feel that awarding their portion of the 40 -hour Special Leave
will be unfair to their County /Tribal employees not in Extension, and we want to honor that
if this is their wish.
1 am asking that each County Extension Director to take the attached form to their
appropriate County /Tribal official to obtain their official decision on awarding this leave.
You are welcome to share the attached policy as well, of course, and I encourage you to
do that.
All forms must be returned by close of business on Thursday, August 9, 2012; forms
submitted earlier are very much appreciated!
Please send forms to Cheryl Howard, Extension Leave Coordinator:
Via Fax: 919.513.2617
OR via Scanned Version Emailed to: cheryl howard @ncsu.edu
I sincerely appreciate the fact that many of you have already gotten the permission from
your county partner for the match of this Special Leave. If you have any questions regarding
this information or the process, please let me know.
SLS /vp
Attachments
Attachment number 1
G -4 Page 171
