Kent County Building Authority
Wednesday, July 7, 2010
Page 3
Ms. Rcrâ–ºsland stated she (ltd not have that inf011l"116011 with I -, hilt woui(i pr'ovidc it to
the members following rile meeting. She continued by saying that many, nearly flours
were spent reviewing the video visitation system. Cloth firms were brought back for
second iiliervicws to make sure the evaluation team was making the right decision.
Mr. Hudenko added that the video visitation system is such an inst 'I'tunental par( of the
system at the Jail. if it does not work, if affects many aspects of the entire Jail.
Mr. Koorndyk asked what support is included with tile system.
Ms. Rensland stated that prices were asked for three, four, and five year warranties
(including operations and maintenance support of the system) and staff is asking for
approval for the five -year warranty. The cost for the five -year warranty is 5140,510 and
that is not included in the base price.
Mr. fludenko explained that if the system goes down, Stanley would dial in remotely.
Stanley has all office in Ann Arbor, but software for all of the systems is located out of
state.
Ms. Rensland noted that Stanley will provide up- grades on a yearly basis (one to two
releases per year) and the price includes those updates.
Mr. Denhof added that typically the cost of the maintenance agreement is based on the
original cost of the software.
Ms. Rensland pointed out that another concern lvith going with Midstate is having a
change order come back to upgrade the system.
Mr. Pestka stated that it is very important that the reasons to c hoose Stanley over
Midstate are articulated as precisely as possible. It appears that the two systems are not
comparable to one another; one appears to be superior to the other.
Ms. Rensland stated the Sheriff's Departmerlt.provided an 8 -page justification
document, and she would provide copies if the Building Authority members so desired.
She added the document is very technical, but they are recommending the Stanley
system.
Ms. Swanson explained the references for Midstate were just not there; it is difficult to
reconlmertd a system when file system appears not to have worked for other
Jurisdictions.
Again, Ms. Itcnslarid pointed out the main reasons for recorrvllending the Stanley
system: nhatln'ity, references, artd number of installs.
Attachment number 1
F -5 Page 81
