III. Evaluation of Jurisdiction's Current Fair Housing Legal <br />Status <br />A. Fair Housing Complaints or compliance reviews where the <br />Secretary has issued a charge of or made a finding of <br />discrimination. <br />None that Cabarrus County Community Development Staff or Legal Staff are <br />aware of. <br />B. Fair Housing Discrimination suit filed by the Department of <br />Justice or private plaintiffs? <br />Private <br />In order to update this data, the Human Relations Council was contacted regarding any <br />current investigations and any going back to 2005 when the last Al was created. The <br />Human Relations Council can only review back to 2008 for Cabarrus County due to lost <br />files, however, there have been a number of cases: <br />Cabarrus Co. <br />2008 2009 <br />2 -Race, Closed 1 -Race, Closed <br />1- Intimidation, Closed <br />1 -Race, Familiar Status, Closed <br />2010 <br />2- Handicap, Closed <br />1 -Race, Sex, Closed <br />1 -Sex, National Origin, Closed <br />1 -Race, Handicap, Open <br />1- National Origin, Open <br />1 -Race, Open <br />Public <br />With CDBG grant activities, many of the applicants have been selected prior to the <br />application to the state by a selection committee. Cabarrus County has a number of <br />different types of housing programs and can usually offer some solutions to housing <br />problems if not a full housing rehabilitation. We feel this has contributed to the low <br />amount of complaints concerning Fair Housing practices. For the private sector, we have <br />not been informed of any occurrences. All clients are considered for service without <br />regard to race, ethnicity, disability, religion, age or other discriminatory factors. <br />C. Reasons for any trends or patterns: <br />We do not currently see any trends or patterns in Fair Housing. We have not received <br />any true fair housing complaints. Most complaints that are received as fair housing <br />complaints are actually Landlord Tenant disputes.
