2. Has donated meals and labor to support Senior Center Rock- a -Thon fundraiser.
3. When utilized for other county or school system caterings, charges same rate as Lunch
Plus program.
o Generally, Aramark utilizes offender labor to keep costs low in the preparation of senior
meals and/ or cleaning. This effort is part of their IN2WORK program, which provides food
service training and practical work experience for offenders, generally tied to re -entry
programming. It is unknown if this program will be utilized for the Lunch Plus Program.
■ Aramark's Credit Proposal
• Versus Stanly County — Stanly County receives $1,000 per month from Aramark for use of
its county jail kitchen to prepare meals for Meals on Wheels program:
http: / /insidestanly.com / ?p =3315
• Versus Fair Market Value — Though there is a broad range for rental rates per square foot,
Aramark's proposal of $500 per month is significantly lower.
■ References
• Punchy's: Current vendor for program, the county is satisfied with vendor performance.
In addition participants generally receive larger portions than required by the nutritional
standards specified in the contract.
• Aramark: Four references were checked and the responses were generally unfavorable.
Aramark Correctional Services
Reference Check
Lee County Department of Aging
Reference #1
• Has been using them +/- 6 years.
• Relationship is getting better with a new manager. Nutrition Coordinator almost quit her job
because of all of the "headaches" before they changed managers.
• Serious problems with both quality and quantity.
• They had a lot of substitutions. And they refused to follow state policy and submit a
substitution form prior to delivering the meal — we didn't know until the meal was delivered.
• They have always had issues with the quality of food (taste bland, not attractive, cut corners,
etc.)
• Appears more food was going in the trash cans than was being eaten.
• Senior services picks up the food and delivers it to the nutrition sites. Did not do a good job
coordinating food delivery.
Lee County Department of Aging
Attachment number 1
G -2 Page 155
