There are currently two
permitted and active C &D landfills in Cabarrus
County and one mixed waste processing (MWP)
center. Most of the C &D waste generated in the
County is either disposed in one of the two in-
County C &D landfills or is recycled. Less than one
percent of Cabarrus County- generated C &D waste
was disposed in out -of- County C &D landfills.
In FY 2008, 51,493 tons of C &D wastes were
brought to the Cabarrus County C &D landfill for
disposal. The County- operated landfill has
accepted C &D waste since 1999. The yearly trend
in C &D waste disposal since FY 2000 is shown in
Table 3 -3. The amount of C &D waste disposed
averaged 28, 963 tons per year from FY 2000 to
2005. In FY 2006, there was a significant increase of
C &D wastes due to local demolition projects;
however, since 2006 C &D wastes landfilled have
declined yearly.
3.1.3 LCID
Land clearing operations produce such waste as
trees, tree parts, stumps, rock, soil stone, and other
materials which are not permitted by the State for
disposal in MSW landfills.
