A regular employee desiring to take a leave of absence from work for reasons caused by or contributed to by <br />pregnancy, childbirth, related medical conditions, or recovery there ti•om, shall apply in writing to her <br />department head stating the nahu•e of her condition, anticipated dates and duration of the requested leave, and <br />the types of leave requested. This should be done in conjunction with the Family and Medical Leave Act (See <br />Section 1 G). The department head shall forward the request to the f-tuman Resources Director for review and for <br />County Manager approval. She is obligated to return to duty by the end ofthe time approved. If she finds she <br />will not return to work, she shall notify her supervisor immediately. Failure to report at the expiration ofthe <br />approved leave shall be considered a resignation. <br />Section 20. School Activity Leave <br />Employees who are parents, guardians, or foster parents of a school aged child may take up to four hours of <br />vacation leave, compensatory time, or leave without pay (where vacation leave or compensatory time is not <br />available) during a calendar year for attendance or involvement in school activities. The employee and their <br />supervisor must mutually agree on the leave period; the employee must provide written notification to his or her <br />supervisor at least 48 hours in advance of the leave period desired; and the employee may be required to <br />provide verification ofappropriate leave use. <br />Section 2,8 21. Civil Leave <br />A regular County employee called for jury duty, or as court witness for the federal or State governments or a <br />subdivision thereof, shall receive leave with pay for such duty during the required absence without charge to <br />accumulated annual or sick leave. Civil leave outside Cabarrus County is limited to five days unless approved <br />by the County Manager. <br />An employee may keep fees and travel allowances received for jury or witness duty in addition to regular <br />compensation, except that employees must turn over to the County any witness fees or travel allowances <br />awarded by t~tt-the court for court appearances in connection with official duties. While on civil leave, benefits <br />and leave shall accrue as though on regulat• duty. <br />Section-3823.
