Section 3. Holiday -When Work Required <br />Except for EMS and law enforcement personnel, employees who are required to perform work on regularly <br />scheduled holidays shall be paid or granted compensatory time for the period worked on an hour for hour basis. <br />Section 4. Vacation Leave <br />All regular and probationary employees who are scheduled to work at least 1,000 hours during the calendar year <br />shall receive vacation leave in accordance with this policy. Vacation leave maybe used at the employee's <br />discretion with prior approval of the employee's immediate supervisor or department head. <br />Section 5. Vacation Leave -Manner of Accrual <br />The anniversary date of employment shall be used for determining earned vacation leave. Any employee <br />working the basic workweek shall earn vacation leave at the following rates: <br />Schedule A <br />Years of Aeeregate Service <br />Less than 5 years <br />5 but less than 10 years <br />10 but less than 15 years <br />15 but less than 20 years <br />20 years or more <br />Hours Earned Bi-weekly <br />3 hours 4 minutes 37 seconds <br />4 hours <br />4 hours 36 minutes 55 seconds <br />5 hours 13 minutes 51 seconds <br />6 hours 9 minutes 14 seconds <br />Leave Earned Yearly <br />80 hours 2 seconds (10+ days) <br />104 hours (13 days) <br />119 hours 59 minutes 50 seconds (15- days) <br />136 hours 6 seconds (17+ days) <br />160 hours 4 seconds (20+ days) <br />Schedule A is for all persons hired or rehired on July 1, 1997, or thereafter; and those in full time County <br />employment immediately prior to that date who voluntarily chose to change from Schedule B effective, July 1, <br />1997, under the following conditions: <br />County paid health plan and life insurance coverage will be provided to employees retiring from <br />Cabarrus County and qualifying for retirement as a member of the North Carolina Local Governmental <br />Employees' Retirement System with at least 25 of their creditable years being in the service of Cabarrus <br />County. These benefits will be paid at the same level as for active employees and will be provided to <br />retired employees until they become eligible for Medicare (or reach the age where they would have had <br />such benefits if they had been qualified for Social Security). The retiree is required to notify the County <br />when they become Medicare eligible. <br />Additional health care and insurance benefit information is located in Article IX, Section 2 of this <br />ordinance. <br />(Note: This benefit was amended on October 27, 2003 and applies to those employees coming to <br />work on or after November 1, 2003. Employees hired prior to November 1, 2003 are grandfathered <br />under the previous 10 years of creditable service requirement.) <br />• Employees retiring from Cabarrus County and qualifying for retirement in the North Carolina Local <br />Governmental Employees' Retirement System but with less than 25 years of service with Cabarnts <br />County shall receive one-half of the benefit provided to retiring employees with at least 25 years of <br />service with Cabarrus County. <br />(Note: This benefit was amended on October 27, 2003 and applies to those employees coming to <br />work on or after November 1, 2003.
