Draft Letter to Residents
February 29, 2008
Dear Resident,
Fox the last several months, the City of Kannapolis has been exploring the possibility of
extending water and sewer utility service to residents of the Fishextown Community. To
make a final choice whether ox not to spend the money to build the lines, we need your
input.
Enclosed in this letter is a fact sheet to help you understand the positives and negatives of
receiving city water and sewer service. In order to build the lines, the City will need to annex
your neighborhood. With this comes better services but also higher property taxes and other
fees. Additionally, as with other areas, residents will need to pay tap fees to connect to the
water and sewer lines.
We will be holding two community forums next month to help answer your questions about
the process. The meetings will be at 6 pm on March 18th and 25th. Both forums will be
held at Kannapolis Public Works Operation Centex at 1401 Bethpage Road. We hope that
you will be able to attend one of these meetings.
After the forums, the Ciry will hire a private firm to conduct surveys of all residents of the
Fishertown Community. If 70 percent agree to pay tap fees fox the lines, then we annex the
community and provide the utility services.
If you have any questions in the interim, please feel free to call
Sincerely yours,
XX~i
~Y
G•5
