Dear Honorable County Commissioners,
Herewithin, is a Letter of Intent outlining a proposed new structure to manage and
operate tourism funds for Cabarrus County.
LETTER OF INTENT:
On behalf of the Cabarrus County Tourism Authority Board of Directors, I would like to
convey our recent wishes to incorporate and then contract with the Cabairus County
Convention & Visitors Bureau, a 501 (c) 6, not for profit, business league. Also, it is our
sincere hope that the honorable Board of Commissioners examine documents attached to
this Letter of Intent and ratify the Resolution Confirming the Creation of the Cabarrus
County Tourism Authority and Agreement to Provide Financial Services.
Our vision is to have the Cabarrus County Finance Department collect the hotel
occupancy tax and then remit the tax collections to the Convention and Visitors Bureau
(CVB). The newly formed corporation (CVB) will be responsible for the day-to-day
management, fiscal responsibilities and assets of the Tourism Authority.
This new structure will allow Cabarrus County and the Tourism Authority to operate in
the future with autonomy, yet a combined mission to optimize occupancy tax revenue and
marketing opportunities for the benefit of Cabarrus County citizens.
Attached is a detailed list summarizing the structural changes identified by staff
Sincerely,
Frank Lapsley
Chairman
Cabarrus County Tourism Authority
F12
