<br />c. US Highway 601: runs north-south tluou h the central section of the <br />l g <br />l county. NC Highway 200 branches off US 601 through the southeastern corner of the <br />county. <br />d. NC Highway 73: runs east-west through the central part of the county. <br />county. <br />e. NC Highway 49: runs northeast-southwest through the eastern half of the <br />f. NC Highway 24/27: runs east-west through the southern side of the county. <br />g. NC Highway 52: runs northwest-southeast through the northeastern corner <br />of the county. <br />h. Kannapolis Parkway: passes Kannapolis to the west and links up with <br />George Lyles Parkway in Concord at I-85; plans exist to extend the road to NC Highway <br />49 through the western section of the county. <br />i. NC Highway 3. Begins in Concord, runs north to Kannapolis, then west-northwest out <br />of the county towards Mooresville. <br />3. Railroads operating in the county are: <br />y ~ a. The North Carolina Railroad: runs north to south through the middle of <br />l Cabatrus County. This dual track railroad passes through the municipalities of <br />Kannapolis, Concord, and Harrisburg. Norfolk Southern Railway has contracted with the <br />North Carolina Railroad (NCRR) for rights to haul freight on this line. The North <br />Carolina Railroad operates periodic passenger service, which stops in Kannapolis. <br />b. The Aberdeen Carolina and Western Railroad operates the east-west rail <br />line through the southern corner of the county, passing through the community of <br />Midland. This line caiz•ies short-haul freight traffic. <br />c. CSX operates the rail line that runs through the northeast corner of the <br />county. This line carries freight traffic along the Highway 52 corridor. <br />4. Gas Pipelines. Two large and two smaller pipelines run through Cabarrus County. <br />The Plantation Pipeline Company and the Colonial Pipeline Company both have lines <br />that carry hydrocarbons through the northwest section of the county. The Plantation <br />pipeline runs under the northern end of Coddle Creek Reservoir (section north of <br />Mooresville Road). North Carolina Natural Gas has a pipeline that runs southeast from <br />the Plantation pipeline generally along the Mecklenburg -Cabarrus County boundary line <br />to Harrisburg. This line then traverses the southern side of the county, passing north of <br />Midland and exiting into Stanly County.
