Parks and Recreation Department <br />January 31, 2007 <br />T0: Mike Downs, Deputy County Manager <br />FROM: Londe Strong <br />SUBJECT: Fit Community Grant Application <br />Attached is the Fit Community Grant Application the Parks and Recreation Department in collaboration with <br />the Health Alliance, Concord Parks and Recreation, Kannapolis Parks and Recreation, Harrisburg Parks <br />and Recreation, Northeast Medical Center, and the Town of Mt Pleasant have compiled. The grant is for 2 <br />years at $30,000 each year. No funds are requested from the Countv. <br />Included in the Grant <br />1. Devebpment of a Wellness Council <br />2. The goals of the Wellness Council are to assist in the direction of future programs in the <br />county, to educate citizens of what is already available, and to address the importance of <br />physical activity <br />3. Hiring a PIT Coordinator to be housed at Parks and Recreation for the 2 years of the grant <br />4. Installation of Trail head signs and 1110 mile markers at Frank Liske, McEachem Greenway, <br />and Bakers Creek Park Greenway in year 1 <br />5. Installation of Trail head signs and 1/10 mile markers at Camp Spencer, Safrit, and Caldwell <br />Parks in year 2 <br />6. Develop an active Living guide that identifies opportunities for active living within the parks and <br />recreation departments as well as private opportunities <br />7. Implementation of policy for scheduled physical activity at Cabarrus County and Concord Park <br />and Recreation summer day camps <br />8. The goal of the summer camp policy is to provide the participants with education and physical <br />activities that will identify lifetime activtes and choices for the next generation <br />9. All collaborative agencies have committed in-kind money to be used for printing, incentive <br />items, meeting expenses, or miscellaneous items. This is outlined in the budget as $9950.00 <br />total in-kind services <br />10. The County will provide an office, computer, telephone, copier, office supplies, and pdnting as <br />in-kind services <br />11.
