Who decides where the money goes?
Each employee has an opportunity to determine which local, non-profit groups receive annual
funding from Chi. Cabarrus Helping Hearts and Hands manages the Annual Campaign Drive to
collect funds for local non-profit charitable organizations. Before the campaign is launched each year,
employees are asked to complete a survey to determine which 10 organizations (in addition to the
Community Emergency Fund and United Way) will receive funding that year, based on a list of local
501 (c) 3 charitable organizations. Based on the results of the employee survey, the top 10 will be-
come choices on the Annual Campaign form.
During the Annual Campaign, employees may select to pledge money to one, all or any combina-
tion of charities or the Community Emergency Fund (CEF) on the form. Employees who choose to
make either a one time contribution or donate through payroll deductions.
Since Chi is run by a volunteer group of Cabarrus County employees, there are no overhead costs.
Therefore, 100 percent of all funds contributed to the Chi Annual Campaign, or any other Chi spon-
sored collection, goes directly to the designated charitable organizations located in Cabarrus County.
In addition to the survey this year, a questionnaire was sent out to all employees to seek input and
gage the success of the program. The survey recorded 370 responses. The highlights of the survey are
as follows:
• Additional Non-Profits should not be added to the Annual Preference
Survey (APS)
• Health related Non-Profits should be added to the APS
• Environmental Non-Profits should not be added to the APS
• United Way should not continue to be an automatic option on the APS
• There should be a limit of Non-Profits on the APS
• Incentive Prizes do not influence participation in Chi
ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Each year, employees have the opportunity to make monetary contributions to the Cabarrus Help-
ing Hearts and Hands Annual Fund Drive. Contributions are distributed to the local charities se-
lected by employees and the Community Emergency Fund.
The Chi committee set the 2006 Annual Campaign fundraising goal at $50,000 with 100 percent
participation. Through the generosity of 449 employees, the funding goal was surpassed. The An-
nual Campaign received $50,033 in pledges to local charitable organizations. There was also an in-
crease in employee participation in drives and service projects compared to 2005.
These funds will be distributed bi-annually in 2007 to the 10 local non-profit agencies that were se-
lected by the employees through the APF. The agencies are: American Red Cross/Cabarrus County
Chapter, Boys and Girls Club of Cabarrus County, Coltrane L.I.F.E. Center, Cabarrus Meals on
Wheels, Community Free Clinic, Cooperative Christian Ministry, CVAN Battered Womeri s Program,
Habitat for Humanity/Cabarrus County Chapter, Hospice of Cabarrus County, and the Salvation
Army. Employees also contributed to the United Way and a Chi managed emergency fund called
the Community Emergency Fund.
Z -~j
