March 20, 2007 <br />To: Mr. John Day, Cabarrus County Manager <br />Mr. Mike Downs, Cabarrus County Deputy Manager <br />Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners <br />From: Mr. Steve Little, Director <br />Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department <br />Subject: Name Recommended for New Cabarrus County Park <br />On August 21, 2006, Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners approved the Policy <br />and Procedures for Naming County Parks and Recreation Facilities. Cabarrus County <br />Parks and Recreation Commission's first task was to recommend a name for the new <br />community park being constructed on Pharr Mill Road. <br />From October 1 -November 16, 2006, Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation <br />Commission secured citizen and staff input on the naming of this new County Park on <br />Pharr Mill Road. Recommendations were accepted from Cabarrus County citizens, <br />groups, organizations and staff desiring to recommend a name for the park in honor of a <br />person or in recognition of a historical event, ecological relationship, geographic <br />location, organization or object. <br />Summary of Recommended Names <br />General Public's Suggestions <br />1. River Front Park <br />2. Rocky River Park <br />3. Pharr Mill Park <br />4. Pharr Mill Road Park <br />5. Pharr Mill Community Park <br />6. Scenic River Park <br />Commission's Chairman Justin Thibault appointed a special committee to review all <br />applications and prepare a recommendation for the naming of this new park on Pharr <br />Mill Road. <br />During the March 15th Commission's meeting the Park and Recreation Commission <br />hosted a public hearing to allow citizens the opportunity to provide additional <br />recommendations to the Commission on the naming of the new park on Pharr Mill <br />Road. During this meeting no one recommended any additional names for the new <br />community park. Special committee Chairman Steve Sciascia reported the committee <br />recommended that the new park be named "Pharr Mill Road Park". Chairman Thibault <br />prepared a resolution naming the new County park site as "Pharr Mill Road Park".
