(42) Pretreatment or Treatment. s}isN-tties» The reduction of the amount of pollutants, the elimination <br />of pollutants, or the alteration of the nature of pollutant properties in wastewater to a less harmful state <br />prior to or in lieu of discharging or othenvise inhoducing such pollutants into a POTW. The reduction <br />or alteration can be obtained by physical, chemical an~ or biological processes, or process changes or <br />other means, except by diluting the concenffation of the pollutants unless al]owed by an applicable <br />pretreatment standard. <br />(43) Pretreatment Program. shap-n3ean The program for the control of pollutants introduced into the <br />POTW from non-domestic sources which was developed by WSACC in compliance with 40 CFR, <br />403.8 and approved by the State as authorized by N.C.G.S. 143-2153(al(14) in accordance with 40 <br />CFR 403. ll . <br />(44) Pretreatment Requirements. s4isl~ean Any substantive or procedural requirement related to <br />pretreatment, other than a preffeatrnent standard. <br />(45) Pretreatment Standards or Standards. °'~°"~„o°°° •'~° Prohibited discharge standazds, categorical <br />pretreahnent standards, and local limits. <br />(46) Process Wastewater. sl3all-mean Any water which, dwing manufacturing or processing, comes 6nto <br />direct contact with or results from the production of or use of any raw material, intermediate product, <br />finished product, byproduct, or waste product. <br />(47) Properly Shredded Garbage. sHeN-naet~x The wastes from the preparation, cooking and dispensing <br />of food that hsve been shredded to such degree that all particles will be carried freely under the flow <br />conditions normally prevailing in public sewers, with no particle greater than one-half inch in any <br />dimension. <br />(48) Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW), s13a11-n~e~t A treahnent works (or a combination <br />thereo as defined by Section 212 of the Act, (33 U.S.C. 1292) which is owned in this instance by <br />WSACC. This definition includes any devices or systems used in the collection, storage, treahnent, <br />recycling, and reclamation of municipal sewage or industrial wastes of a liquid nature. It also includes <br />sewers, pipes, and other conveyances enly-i€4key which convey wastewater to the POTW treatment <br />plant, plant apd sewer maintenance nersonnel. and microorganisms associated with the treatment <br />urocess itsel£ For the purposes of this ordinance, "POTW" shall also include any sewers that convey <br />wastewaters to the POTW from persons ouuide WSACC who aze, by contract or agreement with <br />WSACC, or in any other way, users of WSACC's POTW. <br />(49) Pump and I[aul Waste. Excess sludge from domestic septic tank systems, bio]oeical treatrnent <br />planu with an NPDES permit and/or wastewater from portable sanitary_privies includin~ domestic <br />sewage and/od industrial waste. <br />(50) Receivine WAter. The specific waters of the State receivin~ the eflluent dischareed from the POTW <br />treatment plam. <br />(5]) Sanitary Sewer. s}~all--xiean A sewer intended to receive domestic sewage and inAHeffial non- <br />domestic waste, except that of type expressly prohibited by this ordinance, without the admixture of <br />surface water and storm water. <br />10 <br />l~-TI <br />
