<br />CABARRUS COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />AGENDA ITEM REQUEST <br /> <br />Agenda Item # 1:,-<"-J. <br /> <br />Meeting Date 2/20/06 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br />Report by Sheriffs Office and Detention Center Review Committee <br /> <br />BRIEF SUMMARY: <br /> <br />On January 27, the Board established a committee to review the design of the proposed <br />Sheriffs Office and Detention Center. The charge of the committee was to review the <br />existing site plan and building design and consider whether any changes should be made, <br />within the following parameters: (1) Facility must meet the County's needs for the next <br />15-20 years, which equates to approximately 416 to 477 jail beds; (2) Facility must be <br />located on county-owned property that was recently rezoned "CC" by the City of Concord; <br />(3) Any building on Corban Ave. must not exceed the height of former First Union Bldg. <br /> <br />REQUESTED ACTION: (SUflgested mot/on if the Board approves the agenda item as presented) <br />Receive report & consider following options: (1) Move forward with current plan; (2) <br />Request Concord Planning & Zoning Comm. table consideration of conditional use permit <br />application to construct a detention center while further study is pursued; or (3) Adopt <br />committee's proposal for modifications to Sheriffs Office & Detention Center and withdraw <br />current conditional use application on file with the Concord Planning & Zoning Comm.
