<br />Memo <br /> <br />To: <br />From: <br />Date: <br />Re: <br /> <br />Sheriffs Office and Detention Center Review Committee Members <br />John Day, County Manager <br />January 30,2006 <br />Sheriffs Office and Detention Center Review Process <br /> <br />The Board of Commissioners agreed last Friday to seek further review of the design of <br />the proposed Sheriffs Office and Detention Center by forming a committee composed of <br />the following stakeholders: <br /> <br />1 Representative from Citizens for a Better Concord. <br /> <br />1 Representative from the Residents of Historic Concord. <br /> <br />1 Representative from the Concord Downtown Development Corporation <br /> <br />I Representative from the Judicial/Courts system. <br /> <br />1 Representative from the Sheriff s Office. <br /> <br />2 Representatives from the County and City Staffs ("non-voting") <br /> <br />The work of the committee will be facilitated by Ware Bonsall Architects. <br />Representatives of Turner Construction will also participate. <br /> <br />The charge of the committee is to review the existing site plan and building designs <br />(including fayade treatments) for the Sheriffs Office and Detention Center and consider <br />whether any changes should be made, within the following parameters: <br /> <br />1. The facility must meet the county's needs for the next 15 to 20 years. In terms <br />of jail beds, that equates to approximately 416 to 477, based on current <br />projections. <br />2. The facility must be located on the county-owned property bounded by Union <br />Street, South and Corban A venue that was recently rezoned "CC" by the City <br />of Concord. See attached file ofthe site. <br />3. Any building constructed on Corban Avenue must not exceed the height of the <br />former First Union Building located at the corner of Union Street, South and <br />Means Avenue. <br /> <br />Any proposals that meet all the criteria above will be considered by the Board of <br />Commissioners. Any modifications to the site plan or building designs recommended by <br />the committee must be accompanied by an estimate, prepared by Ware Bonsall Architects <br /> <br />E- ,.. <br />
