IIVN III I COMPONENT SUMMARY (attach for each component) <br />Statement of the Problem <br />In concise tennino/ogy, describe the juvenile justice problem(s) to address and how these services meet the needs or <br />service nans identified in the JCPC Annual Plan. <br />Juveniles can only discern the impact of the damages or injury caused by their offenses if they have had the <br />opportunity to provide restoration to the victim or community through their own effort. Project Challenge provides this <br />opportunity. Project Challenge meets the growing need for deferral agreements, as well as the need for diversion <br />contracts, and Levell and II dispositions. <br />Target Population . <br />Describe the tame(nonulation and stens taken to insure that the tamet population is served. <br />Project Challenge has identified juveniles between the ages of 10 and 17 years of age that have been referred by the <br />juvenile court system or the Juvenile Court Counselors as its target population. <br />Program Goal(s) State the effect this component is designed to have on solving the problem described above. <br />The goal of the program is to provide the Juvenile Court System and the Department of Juvenile Justice with a <br />dispositional structure for restitution and rehabilitation in delinquent and undisciplined cases, as well as a suitable plan <br />. for deferral'agreements: ProjectChallengei.whilea'service to the court, will also be providing participants ,and local >-; . <br />" communities a program thal'increas8s self-esteem and:civic,awareness,., . .,' .- . ,., . , " <br />Measurable Objective(s) <br />State in measurable tenns the intended effect on specific undisciplined and/or delinquent behaviors. Example: anticipated <br />reductions in courl referrals, runaway behavior, disruptive behavior at school, anticipated improved school attendance and <br />academic achievement. These objectives must include participant outcomes and may include program outcomes. <br />By six and twelve month survey and follow up with juvenile court counselors, and clerk of court, of the participants who <br />have successfully completed the program: 1) 65% of youth served will have no new referals to juvenile or adult court, 2) <br />65% of youth served will have a reduction, or no increase, in school disciplinary referrals. By post test at termination, <br />65% of youth served will demonstrate the following social skills: following instructions, accepting correction, asking <br />permission and getting along with pears.
