<br />Section III <br /> <br />Program Goal(s): The goals of the Teen Court program is to reduce crime committed by middle <br />and high school students in local communities served by the program while holding youth <br />accountable for their behavior and helping them realize the impact of those behaviors. Reduce <br />the caseload of intake counselors, juvenile court and district court so that they can focus on more <br />serious youth offenders. Promote education concerning the functions and operations ofthe <br />judicial system. Work to build competencies among youth through training to handle various <br />courtroom roles and improve communication and problem-solving skills. Teen Court provides a <br />meaningful forum for youth to practice and enhance newly-developed competencies. Promote <br />community service and restitution as a means of restorative justice for the victim and <br />community. Empower middle and high school students to take an active role in addressing crime <br />in their community while promoting community collaboration by involving community agencies <br />and adult volunteers. Strengthen the family unit through community resource referrals and <br />promote long-term behavioral change that leads to enhanced public safety. <br /> <br />, <br /> <br />1--4- <br />
