The Goldminers program offers a wide variety of choices and learning
experiences. Although subject to student, parent, and staff alteration, the schedule is
as follows on Monday through Thursday on days that school is in session.

Upon school dismissal, students arrive, sign in, have greetings & announcements.
Snack & social time follows. This can include physical activity and group discussion,
beginning homework or attending teacher tutoring. For an hour, students choose
enrichment activities based on interests or needs, including cultural, social, academic
and computer skill-building. Homework time follows for an hour. This may include
independent reading, peer tutoring, group projects. The day ends with recreational
time, physical activity, board games and team building. Parents 'confer with staff and
sign students out by 6:00 p.m.

On "Fun Friday", students will enjoy a variety of field trips to utilize resources in
the community or have recreational activities which are designed to support academic
self-esteem, and social success. All activities are based on the Seven Developmental
Needs of Young Adolescents.

The SOS Advisory Board will h'elp publicize the program, and the Cabarrus
County School Board, County commissioners, and local J.N. Fries staff will be
immediately notified. News articles, local access cable TV features and newspaper
notices will be used. A pamphlet describing program details will be distributed to all
prospective students at 6th grade orientation and at the school Open House.

PTSO meetings will have SOS featured.
