The Goldminers program offers a wide variety of choices and learning <br />experiences. Although subject to student, parent, and staff alteration, the schedule is <br />as follows on Monday through Thursday on days that school is in session. <br /> <br />Upon school dismissal, students arrive, sign in, have greetings & announcements. <br />Snack & social time follows. This can include physical activity and group discussion, <br />beginning homework or attending teacher tutoring. For an hour, students choose <br />enrichment activities based on interests or needs, including cultural, social, academic <br />and computer skill-building. Homework time follows for an hour. This may include <br />independent reading, peer tutoring, group projects. The day ends with recreational <br />time, physical activity, board games and team building. Parents 'confer with staff and <br />sign students out by 6:00 p.m. <br /> <br /> On "Fun Friday", students will enjoy a variety of field trips to utilize resources in <br />the community or have recreational activities which are designed to support academic <br />self-esteem, and social success. All activities are based on the Seven Developmental <br />Needs of Young Adolescents. <br /> <br /> The SOS Advisory Board will h'elp publicize the program, and the Cabarrus <br /> County School Board, County commissioners, and local J.N. Fries staff will be <br /> immediately notified. News articles, local access cable TV features and newspaper <br /> notices will be used. A pamphlet describing program details will be distributed to all <br /> prospective students at 6th grade orientation and at the school Open House. <br /> <br /> PTSO meetings will have SOS featured. School guidance counselors, social service <br /> workers, and administration will distribute registration and scholarship forms. <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br /> <br />
