Harrisburg Kids:Plus meets in the cafeteria. They also have access to the gym, computer lab, library and playground. The four-year-old school has plenty of natural lighting, large bathrooms, water fountains and running water. Kids Next Door will move its afterschool facilities fi.om a very small classroom to a large gymnasium that will accommodate 100 school age children. The gymnasium will have a large area that will provide a variety of educational centers, but can also be used as a large play area for games, basketball, etc. They will have a separate room (Media Center) for homework/quiet activities. The 6,000 square ft. gymnasium will offer a more flexible program to better suit the needs of the children in afterschool care. Sites will be in operation during the school calendar year August 9, 2004 - May 28, 2005. The cost for before and afterschool care at all three centers will be $60 per week. A sliding fee scale will be offered for additional children. Rates of other centers in the area range fi.om $58 to $80 for afterschool care. To meet the needs of parents, program hours for all three sites will be 6:30-8:45 a.m. and 2:30-6:00 p.m. Sites will be available Monday - Friday and all teacher workdays. All three sites participate in the Federal Food program. Child ratios at the three centers will be 1/12 (kindergarten) and 1/15 first - fifth grade. Bethel Kids:Plus will be ready for fire, sanitation and building inspections to take place the week of July 19. The facility will be up and running before the first day of school. The licensing consultant visited Harrisburg Kids:Plus in April. She approved the request to expand the current license to accommodate 175 children up fi.om 115. Kids Next Door is hoping to have their facilities ready for fire, sanitation and building inspections the week of June 14.
