The drop boxes are open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The <br />i convenience center located at the landfill which is open to the <br /> <br />public Monday tl rough Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 <br />p.m. The conven~ :nce center offers expanded materials collection. In addition to the <br />materials listed f~' drop box locations, the convenience center also accepts cardboard, <br />scrap metal, whit~ goods, scrap tires, used motor oil, batteries and yard waste. This <br />facility also acts a~s the central sorting and processing location for the recycled <br />materials collecte~t at the drop box location. <br /> <br />Also, the County~vperates a household hazardous waste collection facility in <br />conjunction with ~he City of Concord that accepts household hazardous waste on the <br />first Wednesday ~f every month from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the third Saturday of <br />every month fror~ 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Non-hazardous recyclable material is <br />accepted every T.~esday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. <br /> 1 <br />In addition to th~public program, the County operates an internal compOter and <br />white paper colle~:tion program. Weyerhauser, a private company, provides the <br />containers and collection on an as needed basis. Various County departments <br />participate in an ~ luminum can collection program that was created by the County <br />but is currently o ~erated by the local volunteer fire department. Proceeds from the <br />program are don ted to help child bum victims. <br /> <br />The City of Kann polis is currently considering a curbside recycling program in an <br />effort to promote greater public participation. However, the County provides three <br />recycling drop ce~ ~ters. Two of the drop centers are in Kannapolis and the third is in <br />the outlying corm aunity of Midland. The City is also considering adopting an <br />ordinance to requ re apartments and communities with homeowners associations to <br />provide recyclinI containers. <br /> <br />The Town of Har~ isburg offers once a week curbside pick up.
