Create community schools where students attend a school within a short distance of their neighborhood. <br /> <br />(County Commission and Planning Services) <br />Through agreement between the Board of Education and County Commission standards <br />have been established for the student population size of elementary (1000), middle (1200) <br />and high (1500) schools. <br /> <br />County Planning Services works with school system staffto assist in developing <br />reasonable student attendance zones. Siting of future schools takes into consideration the <br />location of existing and future housing developments'. (Rezoning that increases housing <br />densities after a new school has been located and built has a negative impact On <br />attendance zones.) <br /> <br />The Boards of Education determines school attendance zones. <br /> <br />g.1. <br />Provide skills training for: <br />· the existing workforce that enables continuous increases inproductivity and opportunity for <br />advancement <br />· life-long learning opportunities that enable all citizens to make life-long contributions to their community <br />· manufacturing certifications <br />· requirements for competitiveness in recruiting high paying jobs in a global market place <br />· developing transferable skills for displaced workers <br /> <br />(County Commission) <br />The county funds a major portion of the capital costs of community college facilities and <br />basic facility maintenance and custodial support. <br /> <br />(Department of Aging) <br />The Department of Aging works with LINC-Charlotte to provide internship opportunities <br />of Gerontology and Sociology students. Efforts continue to establish similar <br />relationships with other area colleges and community colleges. <br /> <br />(Social Services Department) <br />Skill Training and Life-Long Learning is a focal point of DSS work with welfare <br />recipients in securing life and job skills needed for economic self-sufficiency. Parenting <br />classes in child welfare services and independent living services for children in foster <br />care aid in the transition to adult life. <br /> <br />Co <br />Expect higher education institutions to provide the required education and training needs of Cabarrus <br />County citizens and employers. This will include the technology and on-line education required to meet <br />Cabarrus County's job growth Key Benchmark <br /> <br />(County Commission) <br />The county funds a major portion of the capital costs of community college facilities, as <br />well as, basic facility maintenance and custodial support. <br /> <br /> <br />
