-' DRAFT <br /> The Board of Commissionere for the County of Cabarrus met in regular <br />session in the Commissioners' Mee=ing Room at the Cabarrus County <br />Governmental Center in Concord, North Carolina on Monday, June 19~ 2000, at <br />6:30 p.m. <br /> <br />Present - Chairman: Arne L. Fennel <br />Vice Chairman: Carolyn B. Carpenter <br />Co~u~issioners: Coy C. Privette <br />Absent - Commissioners: Jeffrey L. Barnhart <br /> Sue B. Casper <br /> <br /> Also present were Mr. Frank W. Clifton, Jr., County Manager; Mr. <br />Fletcher L. Hartsell, Jr., County Attorney; and Mrs. Frankie F. Bonds, Clerk <br />to the Board. <br /> <br /> Chairman Fennel called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Commissioner <br />Casper was attending a conference in Florida. Co~unissioner Barnhart was <br />meeting a rescheduled flight for children arriving from Belarus for the <br />summer. <br /> <br /> Cub Scouts Eli Shoemaker and Robert Shoemaker of Pack 600 of the First <br />Baptist Church in Concord conducted the Flag Ceremony. <br /> <br /> Reverend Bill Cranfield of the Friendship United Methodist Church gave <br />the invocation. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OR CORRECTION OF MINUTES <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Carpenter, seconded by Com~issloner <br />Privette and unanimously carried, the Board approved the minutes of May 8, <br />May 15, May 16, May 23 and May 25, 2000 as written. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF THE AGENDA <br /> <br /> Mr. Hartsell asked for the addition of a closed session as authorized <br />by North Carolina General Statute 143-318.11(a) (3) for consultation with the <br />Attorney to discuss the handling or settlement of a claim, judicial action, <br />or administrative procedure. <br /> <br /> Mr. Clifton asked that budget amendments for the Department of Aging be <br />added to the Consent Agenda. <br /> <br /> ~ON MOTION of Co~missioner Privette, seconded by commissioner <br />Carpenter and unanimously carried, the Board approved the Agenda as amended. <br /> <br />RECOGNITIQNS AND PRESBNTAT~0NS <br /> <br />Resolution Non0rinu the Centre1 Csbsrr~s High ~chool Lady v~kin~s on Winn~n~ <br />the State 3A Softball ChamD~onshio <br /> <br /> Mr. Dennis Cook, Central Cabarl~/s High School Lady Vikings Softball <br />Coach, listed the accomplishments of the Lady vikings during the 2000 <br />softball season. The team ended the season with a 27-0 record and won the <br />State 3A Softball Championship on May 20, 2000. Coach Cook recognized <br />members of the team and coaching staff. <br /> <br /> On behalf of the Board, Commissioner Carpenter presented the following <br />Resolution to Coach Cook and presented County lapel emblems to those team <br />members and coaching staff who were present for the meeting. <br /> <br /> Resolution No. ~0-21 <br /> RESOLUTION HONORING THE <br />CENTRlkL CAB;kRRUS HIGH SCBOOL I~%DY VIKINGS <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, the Central Cabarrus High School Softball Team, the "Lady <br />Vikings,' became the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A <br />Softball Champions on May 20, 2000, defeating the softball team of C. B. <br />Aycock High School 14-0; and <br /> WHEREAS, the championship victory by the Lady Vikings was the <br />culmination of a highly successful 2000 softball season, having an impressive <br />27-0 record; and <br /> WHEREAS, the team's pride and commitment to excellence was symbolized <br />by dedication and hard work both on and off the playing field; and <br /> <br /> <br />
