510 Dr. William F. Pilklngton, Cabarrus Health Alliance Director, and Mr. Charles Phillips, Chairn~n of the Health Alliance Board, recognized Ms. Frances Taylor on her retirement from the Health Alliance after 30 years of service to Cabarrus County and its citizens. Ms. Debbie Gleuer, County Extension Director, recognized Me. Doris Rogers on her retirement after 35 years with the North Carolina E~tension Service, Cabarrus County Center. On behalf of the Board, Commissioner Carpenter presented a plaque to each of the employees in recognition of their service. The Board congratulated each of the employees and expressed appreciation for their many years of service to the cltizene of Cabarrus County. Both Me. Robtnette and Ms. Taylor praised Cabarrus County as an employer. Ms. Rogers expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Cabarrus County. Reco~nition of the Department of Social Services New FOCUS Co-~,4ttee on Receiving the 1999-2000 Ralph W. Ketner Employee Produotivit~ Award - Jim Cook Mr. Cook reported that a group of Social Services employees had received a Ralph W. Ketner Employee Productivity Award for its ~New Focus" Program at the recent North Carolina Association of County Commissioners ~mxnual Conference. Also, he stated the County Manager had awarded the County Manager's Award to =he Committee for its .achievement. Mr. Cook reviewed the history of successful welfare reform efforts by local Soclal Services staff. Further, he explained the New Focus Program helps prevent people from becoming dependent on welfare by helping them overcome the problems that initially bring them to Social Services for assistance. Mr. James Polk, Manager of the Family Services Division of the Department of Social Services, introduced thc following me,ers of the New Focus Co~mittee who were present for the meeting: Julio Hensley, Lisa Fullerton, Rod ~ncan, Dana Mullts, Susan Nunn, Lisa Purser and Regina Crowder. Other Committee members included Jane Nartsell, Sue Bullard, Carina Sherrill and Ruth Hinson. Mr. Polk advised that staff members were able to divert and provide short term assistance to 352 of the 483 persons who would have applied for and received assistance. Mr. clifton stated he had awarded the County Manager's Award of $500.00 to the Committee in recognition of their significant performance and achievement. Re extended his congratulations to the employees. On behalf of the Board, Commissioner Carpenter presented a Certificate of Co~endation to the COrmmittee and a County lapel e~blem to each me,er. The Board commended the employees on their outstanding service to the public and congratulated them on receiving the awards. On behalf of Social Services Board Chairman Wayne Trexler, Commissioner Privette extended congratulations to the Committee from the Social Sez~ices Board. Senator Hartsell stated the employees of the Cabarrus Department of Social Services are reoognized throughout North Carolina for their expertise in dealing with people and resolving problems that citizens have in the humn sez-~ices area. On behalf of the State, he thanked local staff in leading tho way in the area of social services. Rsco~nition for Certification h~ the North Carolina Association of Registers of Deeds - Blair Bennett Mr. Blair Bennett, Deputy Cou~lty Manager for Administration, recognized the following individuals for receiving certification by the North Carolina Association of Registers of Deeds ia conjunction with the Institute of GoverDm%ent. Linde F. McAbse - Register of Deeds F~y L. Hahn - Assistant Register of Deeds Cathy K. Farrington - Deputy Register of Deeds On behalf of the Eoard, Commissioner CarDenter presented a Certificate of Con~endation to each employee in recognition of their achievement. The Board congratulated the employees on receiving the certification.
