established so that the client must be engaged in the recovery process in order to be able
to successfully complete treatment.
Ifa client wishes to complete a level of care, they must get credit for the required
number of sessions in that level of care. 'For example, IOPT meets three times per week
for eight weeks. In order to complete IOPT, the client must get credit for 24 sessions.
However. certain behaviors will result in the loss of credit for the session. The client is
also required to attend three AA/NA meetings per week in ROPT/IOPT, four in
Continuing Care, and Five in Aftercare. For every required meeting not attended, the
client will slow their progress through treatment levels. For example, ifa client is in
IOPT and attends all treatment sessions, but only attends one AA/NA meeting, then the
client might receive less credit for attending the treatment sessions. This eventually might
result in an extension of treatment. Each client will be required to turn in a meeting list
that must be signed by the chairperson of the AA/NA meetings attended. This list will be
due on the first treatment session of the week. If no meeting list is turned in, then it will
be assumed that the client has not attended any meetings for the week. Sail's experience
has shown that this policy motivates most clients to attend the required AA/NA meetings.
However, in some cases, clients are not motivated. In these cases, the client may be
suspended from the program, taken back to court by the probation officer and case
manager, or terminated from the program. Again, the policies established by the criminal
justice program will be followed. Clients will also receive an appropriate treatment
sanction if they miss an individual session.
It is the responsibility of the client to attend and be on time for all sessions.
Clients will be given until 10 minutes after the session starts before they will be counted
as late. Clients may come into the sessions late until thirty minutes after group starts.
After that time, the client will .not be allowed into the session until after break and the
session will not count. For every two late arrivals that a client receives, a session will be
lost. Prior approval must be obtained if the client must miss a session. Ifa client does not
gain prior approval, then the absence is unexcused. Any unexcused absences wilI be
treated as a serious issue and may result in appropriate treatment sanctions. Multiple
unexcused or excused absences can result in suspension, a recommendation for inpatient
treatment because the client is unable to engage in an outpatient level of care, and/or
returned to the court for additional support. At all times during this process, the treatment
team will be kept involved.
Clients will be expected to submit to random drug screens. Ifa client refuses to
give a drug screen, then it will be counted as a positive drug test. Clients will be
considered as refusing a drug screen if they are informed of the need to give and do not.
The first positive drug screen will result in the client being re-evaluated by the treatment
team. and the client will most likely have treatment intensified. On the second positive
drug screen, the client will be referred to inpatient treatment, preferably 28 days. Once
the client returns from inpatient treatment, a subsequent positive drug screen will result in
a recommendation for dismissal from the program.
It is the responsibility of the client to complete all homework by the date given by
the substance abuse counselor(s). If the homework is not completed by the due date, the
client will be asked to leave the group to complete the assignment and the session will not
count.
