To Prr,vid~. a Supplemental Tax on a County~vide Basis a~er <br />Petition fiw C,msolidation of City or County Administrative Units. <br />~ Elections may be called tbr an enth'e county on the question ora <br />special tax to supplement the [hnds [>om State and county allot- <br />ments and thereby operate schools of a higher standard by supple- <br />menting any itch{ of expenditure in the school budget, where the <br />boards of education of all the city administrative units in said <br />county have petitioned the county board of education for a consoli- <br />dation with the county administrative unit pursuant to the provi- <br />sions of the first paragraph of G.S. 115C-70~a} and prior to the <br />approval or said petitions by the county and State boards of <br />education. In which event, and provided the petitions so specify, <br />said election fi~r a count~vide supplemental tax fails to carry, said <br />petitions may be withdrawn and any existing supplemental tax <br />theretofore voted in any of the city administrative units involved or <br />in the county administrative unit shall not be affected.
