NURSING HOME COMMUNITY .4J)~ISORY COMMrlTI~ <br />ADULT CARE HOME COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMrI'IW_.E <br />APPOINTMENTS AND At.-rivfl'lzS <br /> <br />VOLUNT~.~R JOB DESCRIPTION <br /> <br />The Nut,ins Home Community Advisory Committee (NHC. AC) and the Adult Care Home CommUm <br />Advisory Committee (ACHCAC) serve the res/dents of long term care fac/lifies within the cotmty. <br />The committees have legislative authority to monitor the Res/dents' Bill of Rights, promote commtmi <br />involvement in the homes, provide public education on long term care issues, and ass/st residents in <br />grievance resolution. (O.$. 131 D-31, G.S. 13I B-128) <br /> <br />NHCAC members are required to visit all nursing homes once a quarter as a commiuee and are to <br />visit individ-~lly as often as po~ible. ACHCAC members are to visit Homes for the Aged quarterly, <br />Family Care Home ~nnn~lly, and Homes for Developmentally Disabled Adults annually as a <br />committee with individual visits being carried out as often as possible. Business meetings are held or <br />a quarterly basis. Orientation and traini~:g will be provided by the North Carolin. Division of Aging <br />through the Regional Ombudsman Prngr~m Committee activities will involve at least eight hours ~ <br />month. <br /> <br />As part of their i~J!!,l training, committee members are required to make orientation visit to each <br />of facility they serve and to attend an 'orientation session condu~'~ed by the Regional Ombudsm~n <br /> <br />Members of these committees musi reside within the county that the committee serves. They should <br />be willing ~o attend a.lnlng sessions -nd be able to effectively comm-nicate with the residents and <br />facility staff. All committee members are appointed by the County Ceramic=loners. One-third are to <br />be nominated by facility admlni~trators. All appointees shall serve an initial one year tefra and then <br />may be reappointed to a subsequent te~u of two or three years for ACHCAC and three years for <br />NHCAC's. <br /> <br />The legislation requires that "no person or immediate family member of a person with a financial <br />interest in a home served by the committee, or employee or governing board member of a home serv~ <br />by the committee, or immediate family member of a resident in a home served by the committee ma) <br />be a member of that committee'. Immediate family is defined as mother, father, sister, brother, chil~ <br />grandmother and grandfather ss well ss in laws. <br /> <br />Volunteers serving on these committees are the link between the facilities and the community. Their <br />work Will ultimately result in improving the quality of life for home residents. They have the <br />opportunity to meet a wide variety of people as they carry out committee responsibilities.
