DRAFT <br /> <br />423 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the United Way of Central Carolinas Council of Agency <br />Executives recognizes with gratitude the outstanding fundraising <br />efforts of theae individuals. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners call citizens to action in joining to acknowledge <br />the leadership of <br /> Edward ~. Casper <br />Chair, Cabarrus County Board of Co~nissioners <br /> <br />Resolution Supportin~ the Widenin~ of Interstate 85 in Cabarrus County <br /> <br /> UPON MOTION of Commissioner Barnhart, seconded by Commissioner Ntblock and <br />unanimously carried, the Board adopted the following Resolution and directed that <br />it be sent to all local municipalities with a request for the adoption of a <br />similar resolution. <br /> Resolution No. 1997-3~ <br /> A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE <br /> WIDENING OF INTERSTATE 85 IN CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, 1-85 is the major transportation corridor through <br />Cabarrus County; amd <br /> WHEREAS, 1-85 has been widened in Mecklenburg County and work <br />is currently underway to widen 1-85 in Rowan County; and <br /> WHEREAS, the rapid growth and development of residential, <br />commercial and industrial uses in Cabarrus County and its <br />municipalities have greatly increased the traffic on 1-85; and <br /> WHEREAS, the increased traffic on 1-85 has caused growing <br />concerns about traffic congestion and traffic safety for both <br />motorists traveling through Cabarrus County and local residents; and <br /> WHEREAS, the construction of 1-485 has been put on an <br />accelerated completion schedule and, when completed, will direct <br />even greater numbers of vehicles onto 1-85; and <br /> WHEREAS, Concord Mills, a 1.4 million square foot retail and <br />entertainment project planned for a site located directly off 1-85, <br />will be a major regional attraction and generate increased traffic <br />on 1-85; and <br /> WHEREAS, an improved 1-85 will have a positive impact on future <br />industry and business developments and expansions in Cabarrus County <br />and its municipalities. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Cabarrus County 5oard <br />of Commissioners unanimously supports the widening of 1-85 in <br />Cabarrus County and urges the North Carolina Department of <br />Transportation to move forward with the scheduling of additional <br />lanes and safety improvements to this section of 1-85 as quickly as <br />possible. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Board requests that all <br />municipalities in Cabarrus County adopt similar Resolutions <br />supporting the widening of 1-85 in Cabarrus County. <br /> Adopted this the 17th day of November, 1997. <br /> <br /> /s/ Sue Casper <br /> Sue Casper, Chair <br /> Board of Commissioners <br />ATTEST: <br />/s/ Frankie F.
