(BILL) GILMORE, CAPTAIN <br />CABARRUS COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE <br /> <br />EFFECTIVE DATE OF RETIREMENT 1-1-95 <br /> <br />Bill Gilmore began his career with the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office on July 21, 1969. <br /> <br />Prior to joining the department he sep~ed two years with the United States Army, 82nd Airborne <br />Division Military Police Unit. <br /> <br />He is married to Sandra {Sandy) Gilmore and they have two sons, Jast>n Michael Gilmore, and Steven <br />Wayne Gilmore. <br /> <br />Captain Gilmore began his service with the department as a patrol officer where he was promoted to the <br />rank of Sergeant in 1973. <br /> <br />In 1982 he was promot,~d to the rank ,f Captain over die Operations Division of' the Sheriff's Office <br />which includes the patrol, civil, records, community police, .qchool resource officers, and animal control <br />divisions. <br /> <br />During his time with the department he has continued io upgrade his education by attaining his <br />Associates Degree in Police Science at Central Piedmont Community College in 1974 and attended the <br />University of North Carolina at Charlotte fi)r two years. <br /> <br />He has also attained over t000 hours of specialized training in law enforcement related subjects. <br /> <br />Bill has been actively involved in community affairs, having coached little league baseball, tbotball and <br />basketball in the Mt. Pleasant area. He is also one of the original organizers of the Sheriff's <br />Department's Softball Team which has won numerous championships throughout the region and state. <br />The team won the Gold Medal in the North Carolina Police Olympics in 1995. <br /> <br />Bill also lead the first county effort to supix)rt the Law Enforcement Torch run fi)r Special Olympics and <br />the department won Ist place in that competition. <br /> <br />Since 1982 Bill has been the department United Way leader and has consistently increased Ix)th in <br />amounts and percent of participation. <br /> <br />Bill's outstanding efforts in the law enforcement profession have been recognized by the American <br />Legion, the Jaycees and in 1992 he was selected tO receive the Robert J. Eury Memorial Award which <br />goes to the outstanding veteran officer in the county. <br /> <br />Bill Gilmore is a true gentleman and has served the citizens of Cabarrus County with en~usiasm and <br />dedication for over 28 yearn.
