Monuments, water towers, observation <br />towers, transmission towers, chimneys, smokestacks, conveyors, flag poles, radio towers and television <br />towers, masts, aerials and similar structures except within the vicinity of airports are also exempt. <br /> <br />PART IL CUSTOMIZED DEVELOPMENT STANDARDS (CDS). <br /> <br />Section 5-5. Purpose of Customized Development Standards. <br /> <br /> Customized development standards are not intended to replace the traditional or conventional <br />development standards throughout the County. They will, however, provide an altemative to standard <br />development in those areas of the County where open space, rural character, and t!atural em4rovameamt <br />resources are considered important. In essence, customized development standards are intended to <br />permit a reasonable amount of residential development in the form,,~,,r o,,.~,,~" compact neighborhoods in <br />an open space setting. Because customized development standards are a different approach to modem <br />development, it is essential to preface the standards with a summary of the concepts upon which they <br />rest. Customized development standards will tend to promote the following: <br /> <br /> i) Preservation of the unique character of Cabarrus County. Cabarrus County will <br />continue trl develop into the next century. It is likely that twenty years hence Cabarrus will lose much <br />of its uniqueness if no alternatives are provided to the standard development process.
