Partnerships

The success of the programs sponsored by the Special
Populations/Special Events Division is due to the excellent
cooperation we have had with individuals, non-profit orga-
nizations, local businesses and corporations, and other gov-
ernment agencies throughout the county and region. Without
their financial support, individual leadership, and active par-
ticipation the diverse range of recreation opportunities offered
by this division would not have been possible.

Due to space limitations we can not list each individual
name and organization, however we would like to thank all of
our co-sponsors and volunteem for a very successful year.

Athletic Division

The Athletic Division operates programs for youth and
adults that consist of leagues, tournaments, special events and
clinics. Programs offered are co-sponsored with local youth
athletic associations, Concord Parks and Recreation Depart-
ment, Cannon Memorial YMCA, U.S.S.S.A. and N.S.A.
softball organizations, and local businesses. The past year has
seen a leveling off in the number of participants in youth
athletics after a year of tremendous growth. There are leagues
offered in soccer, football, basketball, baseball, and softball.
Adult programs include basketball and softball leagues. The
Athletic Division strives to provide programs that will instill
valuable lessons in sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork.
Educational programs such as the training of officials, coaches
and league administrators are part of what makes the Athletic
Division a valuable asset to the community.

Youth Succer

Youth soccer participation increased rapidly from the
previous year with 109 teams playing in countywide leagues.
Leagues are co-ed and are offered for ages 6 - 17. Games are
played on Saturdays, and run from mid September to mid
November at local schools and parks.

Youth Football

Fall youth football is offered for boys ages 10 - 12.
Leagues are operated by the Mt. Pleasant Athletic Association
and the Cannon Memorial YMCA but are open to all residen ts.
Games are played on Saturdays at Mt. Pleasant Middle School
and the YMCA fields beginning in October and running
through November.

17
