submittal of any wetland fill permit applications (e.g., Nationwide Permit #26 or Section 401 <br />Water Quality Certification). Once the wetland permitting requirements for the project are <br />defined, CDM will inform the County of the best approach, if any is needed, to obtaining the <br />necessary permits. Obtaining the permits, however, will required an additional work <br />authorization. <br /> <br />Task 4.4 - Fault Areas <br /> <br />Rule .1622 (4)(a) states that new MSWLF units shall not be located within 200 feet of a fault <br />that has had displacement in Holocene time unless proper demonstrations can be made. CDM <br />will review available literature to detemfine whether or not the proposed sites meet this <br />criteria. If the sites are not in compliance, the MSWLF units can be designed to withstand <br />such earthquake forces. These issues wRl be addressed in more detail in the Permit to <br />Construct Application which will be the next phase of the project. <br /> <br />Task 4.5 - Seismic Impact Zones <br /> <br />Rule .1622 (5)(a) states that new MSWLF units shall not be located in seismic impact zones, <br />unless the owner can demonstrate that all containment structures, including liners, leachate <br />collection systems, and surface water control systems, are designed to resist the maximum <br />horizontal acceleration in lithified earth material for the site. CDM will examine available <br />geologic maps which define the limits of all seismic impact zones in North Carolina. <br />Cabarrus County is located close to the border of a seismic impact zone, therefore the <br />examination will have to be somewhat detailed to accurately determine whether or not the <br />sites are in compliance. If the sites are located in a seismic impact zone, additional design <br />measures and calculations will have to be made during preparation of the Permit to Construct <br />Application to insure that the MSWLF units can withstand the design earthquake. <br /> <br />Task 4.6 - Unstable Areas <br /> <br />A CDM Professional Geologist will determine if there are any unstable areas within the <br />Option A and B sites. This task will involve the following: <br /> <br />A review of geologic literature to determine what unstable areas (e.g., <br />sinkholes) might typically be encountered in the vicinity of the Option A and B <br />sites. <br /> <br />· A brief review of the existing hydrogeological data for both sites. <br /> <br />· A one day site visit to look for evidence of unstable areas. <br /> <br />Preparation of a brief report that will be incorporated into the Site Study <br />describing compliance with the Unstable Area restrictions. <br /> <br />n:xca b arrasXamcnd7.eab <br /> <br />Page 11 of 18 <br /> <br /> <br />
