Provide public notice of the policy and procedure. <br /> <br />Work with the Personnel Department to review each job description to identify <br />essential job functions and work them into job advertisements. This will require the <br />listing of job related activities without which the job would lose its effectiveness. The <br />listed activities would serve as guidelines for the applicant screening process. <br /> <br />Review job applications and related forms to assure absence of questions dealing with <br />disabilities. <br /> <br />Hold training sessions with department heads and administrative personnel to <br />familiarize them with the practical application and impact of the act. * <br /> <br />Structural Modifications: <br /> <br />Inspections will be conducted on all County owned buildings affected by ADA. The <br />buildings will be thoroughly inspected using an "ADA Compliance Checklist" insuring that <br />all potential barriers are identified and alternate methods of service delivery and accessibility <br />are presented. Inspections will include the following elements: <br /> <br />Assuring access from public sidewalks, parking or public transportation stops to a <br />building entrance. Modifications may include installing ramps, widening entrances, <br />and providing accessible parking spaces. <br /> <br />Assuring access to areas where goods and services are made available to the public. <br />Modifications may include adjusting the layout of display racks, rearranging tables, <br />providing Braille and raised signs, installing ramps, widening doors, installing visual <br />alarms and communication devices for the hearing impaired. <br /> <br />3. Assuring access to restroom facilities. <br /> <br />Assuring access to a work area where disabled employees may perform certain job <br />functions. <br /> <br />Assuring access to any break areas or common areas in the work place which may <br />contain barriers to disabled employees. <br /> <br />Following the physical inspection of each building a report will be prepared comprising the <br />area inspected, existing barriers, the technical requirements for compliance according to ADA <br /> <br />Accessibility Guidelines. The report will include a work write-up and estimates of cost for <br />each modification. The report will assist the County's ADA Coordinator in formulating a <br /> <br /> <br />
