Cabarrus Aging Funding Plan
Public Hearing
April 6, 1992
Page 2

activities to be provided in these services. A printed description
of the amount of in-home services currently being provided was
distributed and reviewed. (Copy attached.)

Larry Taylor, Director of the LIFE Center, presented information on
Adult Day Care services the agency provides, a portion of which
will be provided with HCCBG grant funds. He explained how this
service is an important one in the continuum of care by allowing
clients to continue to live at home and receive Adult Day Care
services during the day. This service assists those persons who
need some assistance and care but who are not yet ready for rest
home or nursing home care.

Comments were then received from the public on the services to be
provided in the Aging Funding Plan with HCCBG funds.

Pat Christopherson and her husband "inherited" his 97 year old aunt
who came from Florida to live with them in Concord. She is now
receiving Adult Day Care services and has regained some of her lost
mental and physical abilities as a result of participating in
activities at the LIFE Center. The family with whom she lives can
continue their employment on a daily basis since their aunt is
cared for during the day.

Ophelia Wilson's mother and aunt have received In-Home Aide I
(chore) services provided by the Department of Social Services and
she praised the benefits of the program to both persons, as well as
the indirect benefits to her. Her mother never wanted to go to a
nursing home and this service maintained her at home.

Joyce Smith's 82 year old mother is able to live in her own home
with the assistance of the Department of Social Services' In-Home
Aide II (personal care) service. This service is preventing costly
institutionalization.

Sharon Ritchie, Nutrition Coordinator at the Department of Aging,
spoke about the benefits of the Congregate Nutrition service to the
clients being served.

Louis Partain, Weatherization Program Supervisor at the Department
of Aging, detailed how HCCBG grant funds would allow the Department
to provide necessary maintenance and repairs to additional homes as
well as perform some repairs which are prohibited under current
funding sources.
